Does sugar free koolaid count as water???

Recommended Posts

My doc said that crystal light can count towards my 64 ounces of Water because it has only 5 calories and no caffeine. My question is does sugar free koolaid also count towards water??? I can't find anywhere where is says it does or doesn't have caffeine...:welldone2: Thanks!!!

The stuff I just looked at does not, but check back with your doc, and make sure that they are OK with it.

I can't see why not, but just check to be sure.

Also, if you are getting 5 calories from the crystal light, then you must be using the bottled version (I assume) as my powdered version has 0 calories. My doc stated to stay with 0 calorie beverages ONLY. Again, ask your doc, and do as he says.

As I was thinking about this question, I was thinking of any reasons one might find in favor of avoiding sweet drinks. For me, and I emphasize this, for ME when I eat or drink sweet things, I end up with the head hunger for more sweet things. I made some sweet n sour chicken in the crockpot the other day. I only had 1/2 of a breast, but I swear for three days after that I was plagued with cravings for more of that sauce, which also lead to cravings for other sweet things. *shrugs* Not sure if that's scientific or not, but it's what I've found.

One could also point to the chemicals that are in the drinks, but we are all aware of those.

Oh yeah, baby! SF Kool-aid counts! There's a whole thread on Crystal Light...maybe do a search? but I got a great idea from there and it's working out great. It's called Water Sensations. I have only been able to find it at Super Target. It's little packets of liquid flavoring you add to your water bottle, only I add 1 packet to 2 Water bottles, and just keep 2 bottles at a time going. It's plenty of flavor with just 1/2 a packet, and adds enough zip that I can get my water in with NO problem! I found my compromise. Yay! Crystal Light and SF Kool Aid are definately better than nothing, but there really is no substitute for plain ole water.

And I'm fairly certain there is no caffeine (sp?) in Kool Aid.

Photo Nut,

You have to tell me how to make sweet and sour chicken in a crock pot! :hungry: That is one of my favorite things my Mom used to make! If you would post the recipe I would so very greatly appreciate it.

About the drink issue......I make kool-aid with splenda and it is pretty good. Hubby is not wild about the Splenda though. I get my sweet fix that way though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
