ty..I did eat a banana..and I could only eat about half of it..but, it was SWEET...lol..I can't wait til strawberries come into season again..what about apples and such..I know the juice is too high in sugar, but what about the actual fruit...I had my surgery Jan 5th..so I can eat pretty much anything, but I'm so paranoid about throwing up I still rely on mostly tuna, milk, chicken and my protien shakes..How do I get over this fear and start experimenting with new things? I think I am just trying to stick with what works...*shrugs shoulders* I better go take a vitamin..lol

I eat bananas too. I haven't had any problems yet. Like the Jersey Girl, I only eat 1/2 or 3/4. I share w/ my daughter or dog. It's a great way to help with Portion Control !!

I haven't evaluated the nutritional content of bananas, but personally always considered them an acceptable fruit. They are higher in sugar content, don't contain as much Water or Fiber, but are often recommended for the potassium content.

Have a banana!! :scared:

(That is, if you're not in liquids, or otherwise forbidden... :welldone2:)

Fear was a good thing for me, it kept me from hurting myself and eating to much lol. Don't worry, you'll get over the fear of trying new stuff, just give it some time.

Go slow and don't be in a hurry :welldone2:

The only problem I have with bananas is that they can cause Constipation. If this is something that you are dealing with already, you might want to eat them sparingly.

Good point! that was my first naner in a month or more, so I think I'm doing the sparingly thing pretty well..lol:Banane37:

Banana's aren't good diet food. On diabetic diets they count as 2 fruit exchanges, on the new Weight Watchers diets they are 2 points, as opposed to 1 like most other fruits. Not only do they have twice as many calories, but their glycemic index is very high. They aren't too highly recommended for losing weight.

Except with the band. =)

I think they're a great band food. If the band is working properly, you're not going to be able to eat much more than a banana, and they are, as others have said, very sweet and very satisfying.

My stomach's so messed up right now that they're one of the only fruits I *can* eat. For some reason, I can't get any skin down (apples, grapes, etc.). You can peel an apple, but peeling those grapes takes FOREVER. =)

Banannas were always a tough one for me to eat.. got stuck alot, gave me the golf ball feeling and made me constipated..If you are looking for a fruit with potassium, kiwis are loaded with it and are easier to get down for us bandsters. Just my opinion :welldone2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
