I got banded on 3/7. Bad pain on the port site. Just trying to get up and out the bed hurts bad. I've been taking pain meds, but it makes me just pass out. Been constantly sleeping the last two days. Just wanted to see if everyone else has the same recovering issues. And when will the pain leave???

You are going to need all the rest you can get to heal. I know I went back to work in 4 days and I was exhausted, I felt like there were bricks tied around my ankles. Take advantage of resting now! My pain was not too bad. I found the port site to be more uncomfortable. Just be patient and listen to your body. Best wishes!

My post-op pain gradually resolved on it's own after about 8 days. I only used 2 doses of my pain medication (narcotic), then had 3 doses of tylenol for the rest of the time. Important: we are all individuals, and will not heal the same way in the same amount of time.

The most important thought to remember is that you will feel better, and that the pain does go away. During the morning of Day 4 post-op, I had fleeting thoughts of "what the h*** did I get myself into?", and self reproach for having the surgery.

Those thoughts did not stay with me for more than a few minutes...I am now 2 weeks post-op, getting back into exercise, and ready for the next major challenge of mushies and soft foods. The pain is gone...and the journey ahead looks bright and full of promise.

Good luck...this is a major adjustment in lifestyle. If you need emotional support to stay focused, this is an excellent place to visit.

Hope you will feel better fast!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
