The last 2 times I went in to get a fill I was told that Weight Watchers works well with the band. So I have been following WW except I have been counting calories instead of points. The problem is I have not been losing weight. This last time I went in a different lady gave me my fill & she said I was eating too many carbs. She said I should only be eating lean Protein & green veggies. Well I can't eat meat very well. It gets stuck & I have to throw it up. Even chicken & eggs. Do most lap band patients eat very low carb? How can I eat low carb without eating meat? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Make sure the meat is moist. Small bites. Also I eat egg salad, tuna salad, lots of Beans and things like that. I do eat carbs. Some weeksI dont lose pounds and start to get fustrated but then a couple of weeks will go by and I will drop 3 or 4 at once. Just hang in there. The weight will come off.

Protein should be the first thing you eat. If you don't do meat you need to look at other sources. Katwomantexas had some good suggestions. You could also try Beans, etc. And yes, many bandsters eat low carb. They avoid potatoes, Pasta, etc. You could try a free site to track your food/caloric intake like Sparkpeople or myfitnesspal.

My surgeon is very strict about staying on. high Protein, low carb diet. If I was unable to keep dense protein down, he would NOT give me a fill. It's very important that you get at least 60 g of protein in daily.

I dont eat meat because I dont think its really healthy or that I need it. I eat a lot of fish and Beans and I do start every day with a Premier Protein so I start with 30grams of Protein. When you get to green zone with enough fills, you will not need to be on a diet like WW. All those types of diets are a big part of how I got fat and I will never diet again...but in Bandster Hell phase you might have to. I eat anything I want but I cant eat enough of it to gain (yay!)...best of luck!

If you can not eat 3 oz of solid Protein you are too tight! Sounds like you need a small unfill. If you are too tight you will rely on high cal foods that slip through the band. What kind of carbs are you eating. Things like crackers are highly problematic because they become either mushies or liquid in your mouth and slip right through the band. So high calories that don't stay the band and keep you full.

I have had much success in the past with low carb. I did low carb for a LONG time and now....the thought of only eating meat and green veggies makes me cringe. If I was going to eat nothing but meat and green veggies, I could have done that without a band and lost weight. It's just not realistic for me as a lifestyle. Meat is my least favorite food and I don't think a diet that mainly consists of meat is all that healthy. I still eat meat, just not as much as I used to. I do think Protein is important, but I like finding other ways to get it in. Greek yogurt, Beans, cottage cheese, eggs....all good sources of Protein.

I now try to follow a balanced diet. It took a couple of health scares to prompt me to examine what I was putting in my body. I am trying to make small steps towards eating a cleaner diet. It's a big adjustment and will take some time to get there completely.

Best of luck to you!

It is a personal choice. I do next nothing in carbs and high Protein. You might want to try "south beach diet" i know lots of people who do WW. I get to stuck on carbs as i have a tight band. It may just to log your cals as you want to focus on protein amounts & cals. Good luck!
