good luck with ur surgery... you wont feel anything before during or for a few hrs after.... for me the nausea was worst than the pain.. be sure to munch on ur ice chips after you wake up.. it helped me alot with the throw-uppy feeling. be strong.. stay excited... it beats any other feeling.

I'm in my 50's and didn't think the surgery was bad at all. Also had a large hiatal hernia repair at the same time. I know a lot of people complain about pain from the gas they pump in, the nurse told me they pumped most of it back out so did not have a lot of gas pain either also never felt nauseous.

Congratulations. Remember to breathe and try to relax. It will be over in a snap. :) Everyone has a different recovery experience, but I had next to no pain. Just remember that your surgeon will give you pain meds and you should TAKE THEM! Uncontrolled pain can slow your recovery so don't let it get very uncomfortable. Medicate when your pain rises above a 3 on a 1 to 10 scale. If the meds aren't working well enough, let your doctor know. You need to be comfortable in order to heal.

Best of luck and many good thoughts your way! :)

Gooduck. All will be over soon. My anethasist gave me some type of knockout that reduces nausea & I didn't feel sick at all. :-). Take others advice - keep up your pain meds! Even if you don't think you need them. While you are in care be cared for. You will feel so much better for it. Prayers coming your way. Xoxo

i need to know... what about taking meds immediately before surgery?? i take meds for high blood pressure. did anyone else have the issue of what to do about taking their meds the day of their op?? and, whats more, how does one get on afterwoods?? we are liquids only... if we take tablets are we headed for trouble with swallowing meds ?? anyone got any info on this one please??

Also... i know we are on liquids only for the first two weeks. does that include coffee without milk and sugar?? i have mine black without sugar. im goign to have awful withdrawals without it. lol. worse than that i think.

this is so right. nursing staff will tell you its far better to manage pain before it gets to be a big issue the more pain the harder it is medicate. so, its better to just take the meds every four hours and stop the pain from getting a hold. Even if the pain isnt much of an issue its better to take those meds.

i want to ask about these meds.. again, im getting back to taking in anything solid. has anyone had to swallow solid pain killers after surgery?? this is concerning me as im having a lot of discomfort with my hernia constantly now. the thought of anything else happening to make things worse is just awful. im not sure whether i have some gastritis even. the dr will know when he operates. meantime i have a problem even taking b/p meds right now. i may have to ring my dr.

that was so good you didnt have much pain. i asked my dr about using CO2 and he doesnt use it. i will be interested to see how much pain i get, if i get any, when he doesnt use the gas in the abdo.

also... a sensitive issue, a womans issue and one that a lot of older women live with. i think that i have a low lying bladder infection... i just live with it. however, im not sure if it would be enough to interfere with my surgery at all. anyone else here had these issues before surgery?? if i really have to i will see my dr again for antibiotics... but it wont be for another week. she only works part time. im running out of time as im done in about 12 days now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
