3 Weeks Post Op And Starting To Gain Weight

Recommended Posts

I know that many people ask the same question but just curious if others having the same problem. If you have can you share what you did to prevent weight gain till you get to the right fill level. I go in next week for first fill and follow up appt but just don't want to keep putting on weight till i get to the green zone.

Thanks and appreciate any and all thoughts :)

At 3 weeks out I had just started soft foods and saw the scale creeping up...I freaked out..once I spoke with my dietician she let me know that it was normal to gain wait during this period..but I kept my gym routine in high gear...I believe that's what saved me..just my 2 cents

im 2 weeks out and have seen this.. i gained 2 lbs and freaked out. im told this is normal... as mentioned before.. im very careful now.. because since the swelling has gone down i get hungrier faster and again told this is normal.. i was afraid to eat between meals but did talkt o my nutritionist about it and she recomended i have a yogurt.. or pull my meals slightly closer together.. weight gain is normal because your body is just getting used to having food in it again after going thru the liquids.. your body thinks its not going to get anything so its storing everything you put into it. watch your carb intake and try to stay away from sugar. keep up with ur workout plana nd you will be successful.

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and am already feeling HUNGRY! My surgeon doesn't believe in doing the first fill till 90 days post op. Don't know what it the world will happen to my 15 pound loss by then! Trying to get through on just "white knuckle" dieting!

I am 4 weeks out. I lost 12 in the first 2 weeks, then nothing for almost 2 weeks, then just yesterday lost another pound. I also get my first fill next week. I am keeping a journal tracking my Protein and also calories. My calories don't go over 800 and usually stay around 600-700 so I don't quite understand why I'm not losing more or how I could eat much less, so I guess we'll see what happens in a couple of weeks. The good thing is I really am not hungry and don't crave anything. And that's a really good thing!!

I quit losing, too, the first couple of weeks after surgery. I was having about 600 - 700 calories. I started exercising and bumped my calories up to about 900 and the scale started moving down again. There really is such a thing as consuming too few calories and stalling out your weight loss.

im told by my doc that your body gets used the getting a low calorie intake and that either stalls or reduces the amt of weight you loose but once you start eating again... you will start loosing weight again... im at a standstill in my weightloss at this point to i thought i was doing something wrong... but i spoke to the doc and i was okay after that...

I am 3 wks post op... I am, thankfully down, 18 lbs. Every morning walk on the treadmill for 20 min... Brisk walk! My menu is pretty much the same, - LOW CARB!!! No bread, tortilla, sugar etc. Breakfast: Protein Powder chocolate shake 30 grams per scoop, 1/2 banana, 1 tsp creamy Peanut Butter - blended with ice!!!

Lunch: Cottage cheese with diced fresh tomatoes or grilled chicken breast

Dinner: grilled chicken breast, purrred pinto Beans or shrimp diced with salsa and fresh lemon juice.

Water or Crystal light only!!!

Please share your progress and recipes... Thank you and best of luck!!

Reading the majority of these posts is making me very nervous...I attended my post op appointment this morning. CT scan and additional lab work came back with good results. I had lost an additional 2.4 lbs since my visit last week. Best news: I no longer am required to crush my meds!!!!

I am going to begin my "mushies" in the morning, and really am concerned with regaining some of the weight I have been working to loose! I have already made a committment to be consistent with my exercise, a maximum of 5 days per week. Because of my age and status with post vehicle accident fractures still healing, and no NASIDS, the bones and joints need a couple of days off from cardio a week to manage the pain.

I visited the grocery store for the first time in weeks...on the menu for the mushie week are eggs, low fat cottage cheese, yogurt, SF pudding (60 calories), halibut, canned in Water peaches, a sweet potato to bake, and fat free refried Beans, along with FF sour cream. Writing this sure makes it seem like a terrible set of menu choices, but after 4 weeks of liquids it sounds good to me!

My next appointment is for 3 weeks; the doctor has informed me that he will not be doing a fill at that time. He said he wants to see my progress (or perhaps lack thereof), and at that appointment will discuss creating a fill schedule with me.

I am nervous about weight gain and feeling like a failure, though I do understand that this slight weight gain is normal. I guess that the exercise will be the deciding factor...

Everyone continues to do well...good encouraging news for me. Thanks for sharing the weight gain information...perhaps o won't freak out too much!

sojourner.. dont freak out... keep up with ur work outs and you will be fine. i got depressed when i realized i wasnt loosing weight and was at a stand still. i still am.. but im positive i will start again soon with persistent work outs and good eating choices...

you may have those days when you feelliek nothing is going on.. but even if the scale doesnt move.. your body is slowly changing.. dont forget the scale moving downward isnt the only great accomplishments of this journey you're on

I am just over 3 weeks and my weight stays the same or goes down about 0.1 at a time. Not eating more than about 800 calories a day either. It feels like I am eating too much although I intellectually know that is not the case. Getting quite hungry and eating regular food, no more than a cup at a time. They told me that after two weeks on regular that I can talk about getting the fill. Counting down the days. Sometimes I worry that they will say no because I have lost weight the 1-2 lbs a week they say is normal but that is by white knuckling it at times and its pretty tough.

Toddy, thanks for the advice. I'd heard that in the past when I did Weight Watchers but forgot about it. It's so hard to eat more though now that I am used to eating so little. I guess it's the old "fat girl" mentality afraid that I will gain instead of lose. But I will take your suggestion and see what happens. thanks again.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
