Hi my name is Amy and I'm new to this! I am 34 years old and a mom of 3 crazy boys. I'm a stay-home mom/artist. Saw my surgeon yesterday and I will get my surgery date hopefully on Friday. I'm really excited, but comepletely terrified! I don't know why, but I'm scared of not making it through the surgery. Anyone else out there have thoughts like that? I live in a very rural town where there isn't much for support. I'm hoping joining this site will help!

I felt the same way. Excited and Terrified at the same time but now I know I made the right decision. Think positive and why you made this decision. I also joined this site for support and you will not be sorry. Good luck!

From what I understand, the surgery is somewhat minor. Three keyhole incisions, and the amount of time you are under is about an hour. I wouldn't worry too much. I am nervous myself, but the thought of finally being healthy takes care of that.

I am the mother of 2 girls, ages 10 and 7. The morning of my surgery I had a major panic attack thinking what if I don't make it, this is so selfish. Well, I made it! Banded on 2/27 and I feel fantastic! My girls are seeing me exercise every day and last night my 10 year old chose yogurt instead of chips with her sandwich. She said "Don't you think that is my healthier option Mom?". I did this for my entire family and I can see the great results already. Hang in there, you will do great!!

You will do great!! I was very nervous as well, but once the anestheiaologist came in and talked to me and shared my fears he was GREAT and explained everything. I was 100% ready when the took be back. The surgery itself only takes about 30 minutes. THe other 20-30 minutes is the pre and post stuff of the surgery...you are still under when they do these things. I just kept telling myself people get put under for wisdom teeth or broken bones or heaven forbid cancer related surgeries. That put this minor surgery in persepective for me. It was a piece of cake. The days after surgery are probably worse then the actual surgery. YOu can do it!! You will feel so supported being here! IT helps so much!!

the surgery isnt as bad as i thought it would be. they key in gettin over your fear is to talk to you doctor and anastegiologist, let them know your scared.. ask questions.. no question is dumb. as as many as you like. and then just go to sleep. take a rest and when you wake up... ud be ready and equipped to start the rest of your healthy life.

Per Otters38 it is a piece of cake. If you follow the rules, that will be the last piece of cake you will have.

A MILLION years ago my grandma died on the operating table, she had her varicose veins done. I was alway afraid to go under also. When I had my tubes tied, I panicked. This surgery was a breeze. I have 5 cuts. They were glued together. I stayed at the center for 4 hours. I was out walking immediatly and I didnt have the gas that so many of the gals and guys complain about.

So happy for you, please feel free to contact me at any time. Best of luck. You will do terrific.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
