Made The Decision....seminar This Saturday

Recommended Posts

Let me introduce myself. My name is Hope, I'm 40 years old married with 3 boys. Weight became an issue with me in the past 8 years. I have tried numerous things WW, prescription medications, diet shakes, and yes...Alli. Had results with the medication only to have the weight come back on and then some. I will be attending a seminar this saturday with my husband's support to learn more on the lap band. This will be a self pay since I fall between the cracks. BMI is 34 with comorbity of high cholesterol. Our insurance, wants BMI of 35 so no go, Thankfully my husband is willing to pay out of pocket for me to have a better body image and most importantly to feel healthy. I've been reading through the forums and it looks like so many happy banded people. I look foward to sharing my success. I would love any advice or tips.

thanks

Hope

I self paid for the same reason and of course it was the best money ever spent! But I still wonder if I could or should have gained a few pounds to qualify for insurance coverage...at the time the idea of deliberately gaining weight was just too scary but now I could really use that money back for some plastic surgery!!

Dr doctor i plan on going to, offers the lap band, self pay for people with bmi 30-35. So, i won't have to worry about the insurance issues. thank goodness. Small price to pay for my health :)

My insurance or rather my employers insurance does not cover this sort of procedure, so I will pay half out of pocket. The other half will be financed for two years. I wanted a new vehicle, but to feel healthy again is more important and worth every penny. The new truck can will have to wait, and I'll look good driving it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
