I over heard that Protein Shakes are not a good way to get extra amounts of Protein for lap banders... Is this true? Also what about Protein Shots? Are those good? If so what are some good ones. I have a hard time getting alot of protein in from just eating.

I get all the Protein I need from the food that I eat. I have never felt the need to supplement with additional shakes.< /p>

I think they're important for pre-op and post op to make sure you get enough Protein. I have 6 weeks of liquids so I'll be having quite a few of them. I like Unjury, chicken Soup is really good and mixes great, as do their shakes, they taste good too. You'll find tons of different kinds on this forum that people talk about, but we all have different tastes. The nice thing is some of the sites have sample packs available, Unjury.com, ohyeah.com and BariatricChoice, com to name a few. good luck! Deb

Just don't forget to add the calories into what you have used for the day.

A distant relative of mine is a personal trainer and is into body building, they rely heavily on Protein but his advice to anyone is always use Protein as a suppliment if u replace meals with it then use the ones that u add milk to or that contain milk.. sounds like u are doing ok ..

I am in the Uk so they dont push Protein shakes here, just good old healthy food .. If its working for you then i am sure its fine :)

I was told by my dr. that I will be on 2 Protein Shakes the rest of my life.. He said I will eat 3 meals a day and two Protein shakes a day.. I'm still on the mushy stage, but I eat a lot of fish and get on average around 90 grams of protein per day.. He seems to think the more protein I get the better I will be..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
