I got a call today from the hospital that I have an appointment at the radiologist tomorrow at 7:45am. I'm assuming it's for the Upper GI but no one from the doctor's office called me to let me know anything. If I hadn't checked my voicemail I wouldn't have even known about it at all. I sleep during the day as I work at night, so by the time I got the message the doctor's office was closed. There is absolutely no communication between me and the office. I called and left a voicemail last week regarding the psych eval I had 2 weeks ago, and what they wanted me to do next and never received a call back. Or not until the hospital called anyway. I'm at a loss what to do about it. After all they are supposed to be the professionals, they have to tell me who to call and what to do. I'm not a mind reader. I'm supposed to do my final weigh-in tomorrow and I don't know if I should say anything about it. I cannot handle confrontation, I'm just not built that way.

No need to feel like u are being confrontational, just ask them if there is a problem with them getting through to u on the phone, maybe they are trying to avoid times u will be sleeping as u work nights :) you need information to make this part of the process go smoothly and tick all the boxes u have to, so be direct in what u ask without the confrontation.. That way you are taking control of your own destiny :) good luck !

Confrontation is unpleasant, but politely explaining that you expected to hear from them is not confrontational and will allow you to clear the air with them. If you leave communication problems unresolved at this stage, they will only get worse and you won't get the support that you need.

Good luck.

If I were you I'd be asking them why nobody called you to let you know about the appointment...that's not right! The lady that took care of everything for me always called and told me of my appointments and was very on top of things. Every place is different but still I would say something and ask them to please make sure that they call you for everything from now on.

Most of the times when a doctor sends referrals to diffferent places it is up to the place to contact you and the doctors office usually does not follow up to see if they called because they are suppose to call. Now if they never called that would be different but once the scheduler at the doctors office sets it up, its up to the place that is doing th procedure to call the patient and tell them when it is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
