I was just told I need a pre-op psych clearance before my surgery and I've never been to a psychologist/psychiatrist! Anyone know what happens at this visit! Scheduled for April 6 and don't know what to expect!

they just want to be sure you can handle the big change you will be making. answer them honestly, they are not the enemy!

Mine was super casual. It's just to make sure you are doing it for the right reasons and will be able to handle the process. They just want you to be stable to handle the before and aftermath. She told me it wasn't a test or anything. Just be honest and you'll be fine!

My insurance required it but didn't pay for it... so I was out $200. So be prepared that you might have to pay out of pocket.

i had to pay for mine too , i had to take the one the doctor works with , and this one wasn't covered by my insurance so it did cost 360,- . I really didnt know what to expect going there, but it was not bad at all. I just had to fill out some questions online, then talk to the doc. i answered a few questions and then was told that im good to go .... :) and i was all nervous before ...

I just filled out a questionnaire but I doubt they would have turned me down as I'm self-pay! Just be honest, I guess!

Mine was a lengthy but pleasant evaluation. I was told it would take about 3 hours. I first talked with the psychologist for about an hour. Although she asked several questions, she was very nice and it felt like we were simply chatting. After she finished interviewing me, she led me down the hallway to a room with computers. Next, I took an assessment on the computer (the MMPI, I think), which took about another hour.

The psychologist told me I was the ideal candidate for the lap band, which increased my confidence.

Thanks for the advice everyone! My appointment is set for the 16th with the one that works with True Results! They wailed me 15 pages of questionnaire for me to fill out and bring to my visit! I feel a little better but still all around nervous! I ordered a Juicer and received it today! I also ordered a book that will be here Friday ! Ready to try some shakes and juice out in preparation of the pre-op diet which starts on the 24th!
