Sleep Apnea Mask For 3 Months :(

Recommended Posts

So i just came back from seeing my doctor and he says i have sleep apnea which i already knew. But now he tells me i need to use the mask for 3 months before i get medical clearance. Im upset because this is was my 5th month and my R.N. said i would be able to get the surgery next month since it would be my 6th month. Now im set back another 3 months. Has anyone had this same issue? and did you actually have to use the mask for 3 months so then you could get clearance? any information would help a lot.

you already knew you had sleep apnea, did you have a CPAP ? this is a dangerous condition where you stop breathing. if they need you to do this, why wouldn't you want to take care of your health?

I understand the anxiety about waiting for surgery but, you can start changing your eating habits, eat less, start exercising now. get a head start on your "new life". this is such a small Detour.< /span>

The cpap willl make you healthier (more oxygen) for the surgery. sleep apnea starves your body of oxygen and makes it harder to heal...

why would he postpone the surgery when its well known that weight loss will cause you to improve?/ i dont understand that . and, whats more, i dont trust a lot of them either.

I also have sleep apnea...I was diagnosed in 2005 and have had an unused CPAP since then...I had to use my CPAP for 30 days before they would complete my surgery...

did you go back to the sleep doc after your surgery to see if apnea is gone? I just had another study done and they found that I still need

the CPAP. They adjusted the pressure for me, all is good again. The sleep apnea affects thin people too, you know. I have a friend who

has always been thin (100- 115 lbs. ) and she always uses her machine!

This is a dangerous illness that needs to be confirmed by a doc, not us.

no i haven't been to the doc for the sleep apnea since my original diagnosis in 2005...i have contiuned to use it most nights post-op as i have gotten used to the machine and found it to be helpful on nights when i can't sleep...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
