rairai 2 Posted March 7, 2012 I am about 48 hours post-op and the gas pain is a bit more than I anticipated. I have been getting up and walking small laps around my house about every 4 hours or so. I've been reading postings on here about some people praising Gas-X and others saying it doesn't do much and walking is the real key to it all. I'm looking forward to being more active but I also fractured my knee right before my surgery. Has anyone else had a similar problem? And if so, what did you do? Also, every once in awhile I feel like I have to burp but its really painful and when I try to push it out, nothing happens. Is this normal? Thanks for your responses! Cindysmom (Ilene) 130 Posted March 7, 2012 Best of luck to you and welcome. You are doing exactly the right things. Do you have anyone there that can pat your back or rub it.? Think of when a baby has gas...We rub and gently pat the baby on the back. Try this: no promise: pretend that you are hooking and un hooking your bra.several times. I just thought of that. Drink warm tea, broth, or anything warm also. Good luck and keep posting. Feel better soon. Ilene 1 rairai reacted to this

Ann_Marie 1 Posted March 7, 2012 I am 36 hours post op and went through the same thing. Had horrible back pains. I also kept feeling like I needed to burp but it wouldn't come out. I thought it wasn't coming out because my stomach hurt just flexing to burp. My mom rubbed my back and I used a heating pad for 2 days. Today the pain is gone however I started passing gas. I know it's not lady like BUT hey I feel better. Hope you feel better. Walk and use heating pad
Ann_Marie 1 Posted March 7, 2012 Sorry I meant 72 hours post op (3 days)
rairai 2 Posted March 7, 2012 Thank you Ann Marie, I don't have a heating pad but I will definitely make myself a make-shift hot Water bottle or something. And P.S. No matter how unlady like it is, I'd rather pass gas than be in pain!
Cindysmom (Ilene) 130 Posted March 7, 2012 Hope the gas goes bye bye. Do you not think that the queen of england doesn't have gas..? I bet she does too. ha ha. so let it rip.
#MagicWithinme 173 Posted March 7, 2012 Don't feel bad, I'm 6 weeks out and I still burp (from both ends! :huh:hubby says ) but this is first thing in the am so no one is around. I would much rather get it all out in am than during the day at work.
cfalbro 23 Posted March 7, 2012 I can only offer the same advice as everyone else. The heating pad worked well for me in the beginning (it even made my tummy feel better) but after a few days it didn't help much. Somewhere I read to lay on your left side. I know this is VERY difficult for most people, but if you can do it, I found that it actually helped.
rairai 2 Posted March 7, 2012 I have tried to lay on my left side and I find it really hard to do! I will keep trying different ways of doing so... maybe one of those big body pillows will help. Thanks so much for your suggestion!
