Feeling Like A Failure.. Failed Sleep Study Again..

Recommended Posts

So I was banded almost 2 years ago (March 18, 2010). At the time i already knew i had sleep apnea.. Fast forward, First year i went from 302lb to 218lbs and felt like I was sleeping better, stopped using my BiPAP.. Here recently since gaining about 40lbs back I have been feeling very tired again so My PCP asked me to get another sleep study... I FAILED Badly, I had twice as much apnea periods.. Feel like a big failure... I have made great stride in the last 2 years, Off my BP meds, no pre-diabetic, running 3-4 times a week, ran a half marathon, training for another one now... Trying not to be depressed but its hard.. I dont want to wear a mask to sleep every night..

I feel you pain! I found out that my apena will never go away as i had braces and teeth pulled as a kid to change my bite. I hated the cpap machine. Got down to 8x an hour that allowed me to get a mouth guard at $2800. Much better but keeps me up. Dammed if i can sleep with the mouth guard! Keeps me up, makes me anxious & wakes me up. Meeting with my specialist to request another sleep test. I am 15 lbs from goal weight and my sleep apena is the last of my demons that i want to get undercontrol. I find i am just as tired with or without the mouthguard. I think maybe a bit more rested sleeping with nothing. Sleepless in Vancouver.

I find it strange that I weighed so much at one time :) and didnt have sleep apnea.. I did read some internet stuff on this subject and wondering if training your breathing muscles helps in any way ? also from a child I always had asthma and could never sleep with less than 3 pillows which i always still do now .. i know this helps acid reflux which i dont have either but does this affect apnea too ?

When i was younger, even tho i was asthmatic i was in training to swim long distances, this developed my lungs a lot and i used to do county level swimming along with diving.

Would training your breathing muscles and developing them further by something like swimming, proper swimming not leisure swimming help u think ?

I know some of it is genetic but was curious if there is something u can do other than relying on mechanical means especially if u have already lost the weight to help u breathe while u sleep ?

Cazzy - I too have asthma & allergies. I was a swimmer for years and my doctor says it makes no difference. I thought too my asthma etc... Swimming and exercise helps my asthma though :).

there are 2 different kinds of apnea, obstructive caused by your throat closing and central apnea which your brain just makes you stop breathing. So even if you lose weight, if you have central apnea losing weight is probobaly not going to cure it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
