Endoscopy In The Morning

Recommended Posts

I am having my EGD in the morning and I am curious as what to expect. Will I be feeling bad the rest of the day? Can you eat afterwards? Would love to hear how yours went.

Thanks!

When I did mine, I just so happened to have been taking a new medication, and I ended up resurfacing the only meal I had that day. But, I'm not sure if it was from the med or the endoscopy. Granted when my mom did hers, shes 36, she was fine the rest of the day. Eating is fine I believe.

The most of it was how it went, one minute I was getting something put around my head to keep my mouth open, the next I was in a recovery room with cranberry juice and lorna doones. They don't let you leave until a nurse physically sees someone there to pick you up, they also have to sign something, then you go home. You can't drive. Thats about the most extensive part of it. Not bad at all.

I do not have trouble after them. they are not fun but, you are drugged and don't feel anything. I had one in the hospital and ate a light meal afterwards.

they give the doc such a good picture of what problems we have, I would do them anytime! I have had ulcers and a hernia and with that test they decided I needed a repair along with the gastric band placement. no big deal.

Unfortunately the meds they give you did not kick in before I had one done a couple of years ago. Do you really want to know? You are gagging the whole time from the tube they stick down, burping because of all of the air. I'm not trying to scare you, but make sure the meds have kicked in before they begin. I'm dreading having this test done. I know it will need to be, but I'm going to try and see if he can use my results from two years ago {wishful thinking}

OMG...just got back home from my EGD. It was absolutely painless and awesome. I went in there and they had me dress in a hospital gown, ugly hair cap thing and I got an IV. They gave me something to reduce stomach acid via my IV. Then the Anesthesiologist gave me a sedative via IV. I began to see blurry and was a little drugged by the time I was wheeled into the surgery room. The Anesthesiologist put something else in my IV and I was out like a light. I woke up and felt slightly groggy...but not even a sore throat. I am a little raspy....but eating lunch as I write this.

Thanks for everyone's advice!

I have had 2 endoscopys (?). I tore the lining of my stomach up from abusing (not on purpose) Aleve, before I was diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis. It was absolutely no big deal. I did wake up during the first one, but I didn't feel anything painful. It felt sort of like I had to burp, and I could feel something moving around in my throat. I remember opening my eyes and making eye contact with the doctor. He said "Oops... we need a little more demoral in her IV" After that I remember nothing... the second procedure they used something different and it was over before I knew it.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
