I love spicy hot foods. For lunch today I brought in pinwheels (flour tortilla, shredded chicken, jalapenos, Tomato, taco seasoning and reduced fat cream cheese) but I can't eat them plain like that. I add Franks red hot to the them. I am sweating more now than after a strenuous workout. :)

I would hope it was doing something for me. I might be burning some calories, just reaching up to wipe the sweat from my brow. LOL

its hard for me to eat spicy foods and not drink anything.. the not drinking with eating and waiting 30 min after I eat to drink has cut down on me eating spicy foods

There supposedly is a slight increase in metabolism from eating spicy foods but it is so slight that it is not going to make any difference to your weight loss. The exception would be when you have curry that is so hot that you are then forced to sit on the loo for a couple of days afterwards and cannot get off to eat anything.

OMG that pinwheel recipe sounds fab. Unfortunately my stomach hates hot sauce or else I'd try the combo.

this is really interesting. i love spicy foods and have often used cayenne pepper... even putting the powder into clear Gelatin capsules in the wintertime. I need to ask you... when you had your lapbanding done, did you have a hiatal hernia? or any problem with reflux?? i dont want to have to give up my spicy food... i dont have a sweet tooth but love my spices. now are you finding the cayenne?? does it bother you?

yes, I had the hernia. It was the reason I was supposed to have surgery in the first place. yes, I had L O T S of reflux, it was scary! I have none now,

the biggest change I made was cutting caffeine out of my life for the most part. I used to drink an enormous amount of coffee. I still miss it a whole bunch

but I never want reflux again so I work hard to stay away from coffee. :((

I just had cayenne in an omelet I ate, no reaction at all. I am very grateful!

thats great news.. i hear you about coffee.. i slowed down heaps to what i used to have. i do have more Decaf now of course. so you think that the caffeinated coffee was aggravating your hernia?/ it probably is with mine as well. im in the process of giving up the caffeine now.. so far so good. as long as i can have one a day. lol. im looking forward to having cayenne.. thats really good for healthy bowels. i have been having it in foods now for a long time. i didnt want to give it up at all.

I am 18 days post op and don't even miss the coffee. I am allowed 1 cup of reg and then decaf. But I don't even want it, definitely gaining more energy. I also had hernia repair, never thought about caffeine aggitating it. Also I caused myself some grief by pureeing chili and eating it, dr said it shouldn't have affected me this bad. But my reflux has come back possible dilation of esophagus. So I am back on liquids and think that I will personally stay clear of spices for a while... hee hee

do you think it was the chili?? thats not good. it doesnt seem long enough since surgery though to be having spices i would imagine. what do you think? i know with all my surgeries the most intense healing period is the following six weeks. perhaps to leave the spices for about three months?/ Have they established that you definately have dilation of the esophagus?? is that going to be a big problem for you?? i hope that its not.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
