Consultation Appt Coming Up! What Next?

Recommended Posts

My First Consultation appt with the Surgeon is on March 21st 2012. I have completed the paper work. Verified my insurance to see if it's covered and it is!! I have not had any other appointments yet.--

But Friday March 16th I have a physical appointment with my primary doctor.

I wanted to let them know that I was interested in lap band.. What questions do I need to ask the doctor? Should I show her my Packet of paperwork I Have to fill out??

After this consultation appt what will I have to do next? I am just curious before I go.

Thanks

So happy to hear from you and you will love the lapband. You are so beautiful. The first thing I did was go to a surgeon, they usually have a list of things you have to do first. ie: go to a pycologist (sorry for spelling error.I usually use a spell check but don't see one here.) I had to have a gallbladder test. I think they checked my stomach.Oh wait a minute. tht was because I first was having a gastiric by-pass. Then I found out that my insurance would not cover it because my boss got rid of all BARIATRIC coverage. . Ok back to lapband. i had a ekg. and blood work. also a dietiian I spoke to a shrink. Since I paid $10,000.00 cash. they didnt put me throu the ringer. Some of those insurance companys want you to have had 6 months of TRYING to get thinner before they pay for it. So it all depends on what you have for coverage. I do want to recomend that you ask how much the ins will pay for the fills. You will be getting about 5- 6 fills before you get filled up. I got 1 fill every 1 month. Now they are charging others $200.00. So check that out. They might not even pay for fills so also find out what the doc charges. ASk about the support group they offer or don't offer. That is most important. Before you have the surgery. you will have to lose some weight with a liquid diet. They will probablly charge you for shakes or powder to make them. Have a positive attitude about what is before you. DONT be scared..Be happy that you are going to do this. You can email me anytime at lizybird@aol.com I live in south florida. I will also give you my phone # if you want it. just ask...I will help you with what ever you need. I hope that I answered your question. Probably gave you more info than u wanted. So happy for you..Consider me your friend. Do you skype...ilene.falley please keep in touch.

I don't have any advise to offer right now as I have my first dr appt on Mar 22nd 2012 and just wanted to wish you luck on your journey and hope we can track our progress together. I have already had a physical last week and I have borderline high triglycerides, I have already started to work on my 6mos of dr supervised diet that my PCP said I would need to do. Good luck to you and looking forward to what comes next.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
