Here I Am 2 Years And 1 Month Later

Recommended Posts

 Last night while my hubby and I were taking our evening walk. I mentioned to him how happy I was with my choice over 2 years ago. I was 60 years old when I had the surgery. That age was a little too old for the surgery if I had to have my insurance pay for it. Since I had no coverage and had to pay out of pocket it was the best idea and choice of surgery.

In 15 months I lost (very slowly 89 lbs.) Then I had foot surgery and it put me and my exercise in a slow down. So I gained back 8 lbs. Well that 8 lbs has stayed with me for 1 year and finally I lost 5 of it from Jan 1 to March 1. So I plan on dropping the rest before we have our trip to Europe. That was my reward.

Being older and wiser, I wanted to share my knowledge with others and tried to obtain a position in the faciility where I had my surgery. Killing 2 birds at a time. Making money and giving of myself. At this time I have no job yet. I am a co-leader on 2 teams with Sparkpeople.com. I feel great, I look good for my age. I will be 64 next month.

I look forward to exercising every day. I enjoy buying and wearing nice clothes now. I want to continue being healthy until I die. I have made new friends who have the same life style as me. We all enjoy our lives.post-204862-13813134042669_thumb.jpg

Thank you so much. Looks like you are doing great also. How tall are you? I am 5ft 6. I really wanted to get to 150. Its a hard thing after a certain time in your life. The last lbs are slow to release. You a so pretty. Have you stopped eating all bread like I have? No Pasta either. Happy with my choice and I know you are also. Keep walking.

Congrats on your success. I am 54 and I still have about 60 pounds to lose (I was banded in October 2011). I am sure those last 20 pounds are going to be difficult for me to lose as well. You look great and good luck on those last few pounds. I have had to give up bread, as it is one of the foods that I get stuck with (no matter how much I chew it). Luckily, I can still have toast occasionally and only if I am very careful.

A lot of people say its really hard to lose the last few pounds. I wanted to get to 145 for normal BMI but my weight just plateaued at 155 for several months (I did not attempt to lose it by dieting or exercising as that had obviously never worked longterm in the past!) I got a 0.3cc fill which I thought was ridiculously tiny but I lost 14 pounds in about 10 weeks quite easily and have been areound 138 to 140 ever since...I still dont diet or exercise.

Best 15K I could have ever spent!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
