Post-Op Diet (Liquid)

Recommended Posts

I Know this type of post has probably been posted before (many times!) But probably a few pages back lol!

I just had my surgery the 28th, and was doing fine, thinking this 3-week liquid diet would be no problem because i wasnt' hungry at all. Now my stomach has healed and starting to feel hungry and i still have 2 weeks - 2 days before i can even have mushies!

Sugestions or ideas for someone who is sooo not a cook and can't go to the store to get fresh fruits for smoothies every few days....?

So need help with ideas of what can "fit through a straw"...

My pre-op diet was easy since we got to cheat with small servings of dairy and sugar free Jello, neither of which i can have for the time being.

Thanks in advance!

Why can't you have Jello. I used Liquid Protein as part of Water needed for jello and ate those. Buy large bag frozen fruit from SAMs club, costco etc and blend with soy milk and vanilla Protein Powder. Greek yogurt oikos or choboni. To plait thick and creamy light was my best friend. When I went for my post op after 2 weeks I was so hungry I could have bit the doc. He laughed and allowed me to move forward to soft foods since I did so well pre op and post op

I'm right there with ya. I was banded March 1st, and I thought the pre-op diet was hard? It has NOTHING on the liquids. I got Campbell's Cheddar Brocolli Soup and mixed in 1 can skim milk. The brocolli is so mushy, u can flatten it with ur tongue and it goes down like liquid. I also invested in orange sherbert push ups, and sugar free fudge bars.

I ran different canned Soups through the blender to liquify, also did the same to the black Beans in the microwave pouch. They are really good. El Paso brand.

Same here guys. This liquid thing is awful. I made some watery pumpkin Soup which wasnt too bad. So are we allowed to blend veggies up in soup? I am a bit apprehensive.

Blend the crap out of them, or if you get a cream Soup, strain it to get out the chunks. If you love milk/chocolate milk, this is a good time to drink a lot of of it!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
