andrea0121 28 Posted March 5, 2012 I stayed overnight on a 23 hour stay. My surgery was at 12 pm and I didn't get out until after 2, which put me over time for short stay unit. I could have gone home the same day if I had an earlier slot. I will say, however, that I am glad I had the overnight stay because I was in a lot of pain. Was enjoying the pain pump and I had trouble getting fluids down so IV took care of that. That was me too. I had a noon surgery, but I think I actually got into the ER around 1, into recover around 2ish so he wanted me to stay over night since I was done so much later than I was supposed to be. I was gone before 10 am the next day though.
NWgirl 574 Posted March 5, 2012 I know that the larger you are, the more chance of blood clots. My surgeon said that clots were what she personally worried about with all patients, so the surgeon is probably being safe.
my3kidz36 9 Posted March 5, 2012 I'm curious to how long everyones hospital stay was? I ask because prior to meeting my surgeon' date=' everything I read was saying that surgery is usually outpatient and you go home the same day. However, my surgeon said I would stay overnight and because I was "one of her larger patients" I would most likely stay 2 nights. Thats not a big deal for me, but I was quite surprised by it. Has anyone else had to stay overnight or longer?[/quote'] my surgery was at 730 am on thursday march first. I was released the next day at 3pm.
Rebecca Cain Salpacka 100 Posted March 6, 2012 The blood clot concern makes total sense, and someone mentioned her doc decided to have her stay over because of the apnea...i too have apnea.
