My Journey Up To Surgery

Recommended Posts

In 2009 I attended my GP and he referred me to the hospital for surgery.

I was then given a dietician and weighed 361 lb we agreed I would continue with the weight watchers plan . I was seen by an nhs surgeon and he wanted me to lose 7 stone 98lb I was despondent as the big issue is that I Lose weight and keep putting it back on.

He has said that the surgery is to keep your weight off not only to help me lose it but before I can meet with him again I need to meet regularly with my dietician and have a phycologist assessment, however there is a long waiting list.

during this time I lost 60 but after my annual leave I slipped up and was off plan and next thing know I am up 51 lb I so did not want to visit my dietician as I felt such a failure again.

But George was great and said let's try another plan so he started me on high Protein low carb diet, I looked at it and thought I can't do it but he wad right slowly the weight started to come off. I the got my phycologist assessment and was referred back to the surgeons the trust had 2 new surgeons and when I met with them I had only lost 45lbs.

We discussed surgeries and I said that i was worried that I would be forced into a bypass and that I was scared of this we agreed that over a 2 year period the lap band can have just as good results as long as I stick to the rules. I am now 60lb down and looking forward to my surgery on the 13th march I would love to lose at least another 100 lb but I can't imagine that yet

If you managed all that on your own believe me i am sure u will do well once the band is fitted. I was on a pre-op diet for nearly 3 months of just 600 calories, once i had the band fitted a 1000 calories a day seemed like a feast ..good luck for the 13 th :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
