Change In Pre-Menstral Moods With Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

So, my PMS is usually manageable. General bloating, 5 minutes of upsetness for no reason, a headache and then I'm okay. This time around I am a mess. I feel like I have PMDD. I am not in control of my moods at all, and I'm taking everything waaaay more seriously than I should. There's been some bad news from work, and my 2 year old was potty trained but has decided that peeing on the bathroom floor is better than the toilet, and don't get me started on the pug...

I am yelling and crying soooo much. I feel like a monster! I'm pretty sure my kids think I am. My husband is being totally understanding and told me to stop apologizing, but it is to the point that he called me from work, and then he came home for a bit after speaking to me!

Has anyone else gone through this? Is this because of hormonal changes from weight loss? I'm going to go to the doctor if this happens again next month. We are traveling next month.

Gah!! I do not like being a woman sometimes.

Is it limited to PMS time? If it is I have no advice other than talk to your doctor if it does happen again. Since you're traveling I sure hope it doesn't.

I have not been banded yet but the reason I wanted to respond to your post is because I have been on an anti-depressant for 15+ years. Some doctors would say I should no longer need it and others tell me by this time I know if I need to increase my dose. I have only done this a couple of times over the years but if I start feeling like you have described for a few weeks - month I know that I may need to increase my dose and talk to my doctor about it. I have tried to go of the meds 2-3 times over the years but can tell a big difference in my emotional state when I do. My advice...keep your doctor up to date.

I know it may not be much of a help but at least know your not alone, even with extreme PMS!

It's normal. It's been discussed while back. Been banded 18 mos and had meltdown first month. Doc said its normal. Surgery, rapid weight loss can throw hormones out of wack. My period came day after surgery 2 weeks early, I was starving, cranky. My family couldn't stand me. I was so sensitive. Back to normal after couple months.

Hello,

Another thought if it is strictly around your period is to talk to your doctor about birth control. I had crazy PMS symptoms and my gyno switched me to a Mirena IUD - it made all the difference in the world!

Good luck!

Thank you for the responses everyone. I went and bought some calms and some rescue remedy at the story today... along with some Vitex... and OMG the vitex drops are the nastiest thing I've ever tasted. If this happens again next month, I will be at the doctor's office pronto.

Just remember it is normal. Once your weighloss slows and you continue to heal, hormone levels, digestive system etc regulates. The sad thing is they need to talk about this during pre op phase and seminar. I was not told but it would have been helpful. Even during my psychological evaluation

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
