Some people will tell you no, but I can't see how an occasional glass of wine will do a bit of harm as long as we

use our common sense.

I would ask your surgeon what his policy is because they all have their own programs. My surgeon said no alcohol for a year, which I stuck to.

The best answer is to of course always listen to your surgeon.

I just posted this on another thread and thought I would share it here too... I didn't have my first drink until about a month and a half after being banded. Since then I've probably averaged about 1-2 drinks per week. I usually combine Whiskey or Vodka with 7up - the 7up is probably not the best thing for my band, but hey, we're all human.

As an aside, for Crystal Light fans, I have found that Crystal Lights combine well with Vodka and/or Rum - a Malibu banana Rum with Cherry Crystal Light on the rocks being my personal favorite for a non-fizzy delight. Cheers.

I didn't drink much during the active phase of my weight loss. You have to take the added calories into account. As far as safety, once you are fully healed and on solids, I don't see it would do any harm.

My surgeon advises against it because of calorie content, and the fact that sometimes if we consume too much we might be tempted to eat too much as well.

Now that I am maintaining, I do enjoy some adult beverages.

Agree, ask your surgeon and be honest with them. I told him before be banded that just because I got the band doesn't mean I am not going to have a life and some drinks with friends. I always make sure to stay hydrated. I probably drank qbout 2 weeks after being banded and because I was with my friend got pretty tipsy. But since then I eased into it. Remember to check the calories, they maybe empty calories but they are my favorite kinds of empty calories. Crystal light with coconut rum is good. I always make myself workout harder on the day of the day after.

I only waited a few weeks, and drink when I want to. I only drink once every month or two, but if I want to I will. I just read a whole other blog about 'cheating' on your diet, and it's not a diet, its a way of life, so I am not going to not enjoy myself. I drink in moderation, and if I want to- I will and I do. It wont add extra weight in the long run as long as you're doing everything else right. Just go slow at first until you figure out what your tolerance level is.

I don't drink so it's easy for me to say this. I can't imagine wasting calories on alcohol. If I was to drink I would measure it out like I do everything else that's high in calories. Like with a measuring cup. If you don't you will underestimate how much you are drinking. Alcohol messes with your judgement by definition.

I waited about one month and I have my weekend drinks. I used to be a beer drinker but I haven't had a beer or soda in 6 months. I do enjoy wine but I gave up wine and coffee for lent and now I only drink bloody mary's or vodka and cranberry. You just need to be careful because it doesn't take much to feel the effects of alcohol. I really diluted wine and filled up my glass with mostly Water and ice. Thats helps because I am a fast drinker and it helps to dilute it. Good luck! Remember one day at a time and we all have slip ups but you just get revived and back on the routine the next day. I will never eat and drink the way that I used to so sometimes you need to rebel. We are all human!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
