April 2Nd Is The Day My Life Will Change......surgery Day!!!

Recommended Posts

If you only knew how much excitement I have right now you wouldn't even imagine. I have been confirmed to join the land of LapBand on April 2nd at 7:30am. This has been a true test of patience but I will do it and not take one day lightly. Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive and the best part is my cost is only $37 dollars...what a blessing. Now, I have my Pre Test on next week and PreOp Appointment on March 28th.

How should I prepare?

Not sure what a pre-test is...I the the preparation is all mental. I had to do a pre-op diet. Start looking for good sources of Protein now. Congrats

Congratulations on making this choice! We are bandster twins as my date is April 2 also! Good luck to you. How do you prepare? Well, here's what I have been doing and will do. However, if your doctor hasnt already given you a preparation before and after list, you should ask him as all docs are different....but here's a few things I would suggest:

1. On this site, join the Springters Group. it's a place for anyone who has a March, April or May surgery date.

2. Read this forum daily, taking or leaving what you want.

3. Find out from doctor what medication you will be required to take before and after surgery and purchase them.

4. Start a shopping list for the things you will need post surgery (protein drinks, chicken broth, Gas-X, etc)

5. Buy the book Bandwagon (amazon.com). It will be a great resource throughout your journey.

6. My doc has me on a high protein/no starch diet the month of March. This will shrink the liver and make it easier (hopefully) in surgery.

7. Exercise daily! Get in the habit now if you don't already.

8. Practice chewing 20+ times before swallowing. Practice taking smaller bites and

eating slower. This will be your life after WLS.

9. Attend support groups. I've been attending for 12 months now.

Again, just things I'm doing. Be sure to join our Springsters Group! We'd love to have you.

Congrats Ready2bfit!

I have my surgery 3 days after you.

Along with everything she said make sure you already know some yummy Protein Shake recipes as they will be a staple for some time.

Thank you all very much. I will take this all into account and I am so blessed to have such a supportive husband...don't know what I would do without him. Right now we will be trying out Protein Shakes to see how good they are. This might become a staple in our family to have one Protein Drink a day together.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
