My advice would be to be absolutely honest with him/her. It does you no favors to lie/say what they want to hear. Their job is to make sure you're mentally prepared and if you're not, then it's not the right time/decision for you.

Don't be afraid! Good luck!

Agreed, a large part of this process is being open and honest with yourself and your doctors. You need to listen what they have to say to you and take their recommendations seriously. The lapband is not an easy way out, it takes a lot of work and effort and a sincere desire to make serious changes to your lifestyle. Good luck with your next visit.

Thank You Girls,

I know it takes alot nof mental change..I was always a healthy girl I weighed 100 pounds in high school and after until I hit my 30rds, I am now 222 pounds and want to get back into a healthy lifestyle again for myself and my daughters sake, I can't even keep up with her with all this extra weight I'm caring around I get out of breath, my back kills me just walking a few steps, I do take all the drs. recommendations seriously..I know the lap band is just a tool but I have to do the most work myself....

You should ask the Dr. why he has been unable to clear you. This way you are not wondering and maybe you can work on the problems he/she is seeing. This is only to your advantage that they are making sure you are mentally prepared. Take the opportunity to get advice and use it to your advantage.

It always looks good to go with questions written down so u look prepared, reading questions is much easier than trying to remember them, it also helps when u are shy as reading u dont have to look at them :).. ofc the other trick is to imagine them with no clothes on, it helps put u at ease.. and smile and relax, appear confident even if u are quaking inside ...

I wish you good luck !

Make sure to ask what his/her hold up is. I had a bariatric support group leader (who also does pre surgery psych evals) say that people who want the band are not serious about losing weight. He would automatically put these people in a high risk category. Any issue would make them disqualified. Even if you have to pay for an outside psych eval, it will be worth it.

Good luck today!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
