So Inspirational!!

Recommended Posts

So I've had my lapband surgery on Jan 26th. On the 13th I went in and got my first fill of 3cc. I started out at 292 and 285 pre surgery. Total as of yesterday I lost 22lbs since I started this whole process. Everyone that has been posting and commenting really inspire and motivate me. It's like having my own little pep squad. :) I know there are people that are farther along in this journey and I can't wait to be where they are. I'm only 26 and I have my whole life ahead of me and so much to look forward to. Thank you everyone for the inspiring words and stories. :)

I was banded on January 31st - losing 22 lbs is awesome! My highest weight was 248, day of surgery 235, today 228. So 20 lbs down from my all time highest weight. I had lost 4 more lbs., but had a sip of Water and gained it back - lol. Anyway, I go Monday for my first fill - you are so lucky to have gotten your fill quick, because I feel no restriction at all and that is why I am stuck at 228. Anyway, did the the fill hurt? My doctor doesn't use any numbing agent and I am terrified of needles - not looking forward to that part, but definitely can't wait for the restriction to kick in! Good Luck and keep in touch.

Hi Startswithme, we were banded on the same day and started about the same weight, I was 284 pre-op, about 277 day of banding! I too am down about 23 lbs. That is cool you got a fill so quickly- my first fill isn't until Monday. I have a 14cc band, what is yours? I am hoping for a bigger first fill, right now although I can deal with it I'm still hungry between meals. I'm logging everything I eat into my fitness pal, and working out. Isn't it great to feel like you're doing something that will actually stick this time? We have a little January bandsters group in the introduction part, if you'd want to post there too.

Nice to "meet" you!

My dr didn't use any numbing agent either. I'm also scared of needles. Lol. I think it was more awkward than anything. I got poked twice because after she poked me and went "fishing" for the port she wasn't able to find it. After 2 try's the dr came in and pushed on the needle a little and got it. I felt sick for 2 days. Definatly stay on liquids that time. I wasn't feeling restricted at all but now I can sure tell. I'm eating alot less. Some people get sick after their fill or surgery but I haven't felt nauseated at all. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. Good luck on your fill and keep us posted too. :)

It's strange but I honestly don't know the size of my band. I think a 10cc. I was the same way too. It's like "fill it up so I don't have to come back again for this" lol. My nurse said that as you lose the weight the band will get looser and that why you have to keep getting then adjusted after more weight is lost. She was gonna put in 2cc then asked if I wanted 3 because I was taking Water fine. After you get a fill it will definatly get better. I didn't think I would be able to sustain and still lose by the amount of food I've been eating because before I was hungry all the time. It's nice to "meet" you too and keep in touch! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
