Juicing Recipes(:

Recommended Posts

I have informed my Lapband doctor and regular physician of my choice to start juicing. They've both given me the okay to do it. I tried some tonight and it wasn't bad, but I know it could be better. Any suggestions/recipes I could use to make it taste a little better? Thanks all(:

Just google juicing and you will get a ton of sites and recipes. Im glad to see that bandsters can juice. I juice now and plan to keep juicing after surgery. It's a great way to lose and so healthy for you....

I recently purchased a juicer and I have had fun trying out new things. Here's one of my most used recipes. I will even have this for dinner many times and feel great about putting such great nutrients in my body. There is absolutely NO WAY I could eat near this many vegetables and fruits. It's really the one thing (besides scrambled eggs) that I can't eat much of anymore.

5-6 kale stalks

2 big handfuls of spinach

4 medium carrots

2 apples

about 6 strawberries

1 lemon (peeling cut off)

1 lime (peeling cut off)

*fresh ginger- optional (I sometimes use it and sometimes don't- be careful and only use a little because it can overpower the recipe....I use about 1/2 inch piece)

I have been googling recipes, but it would be awesome to get some recipes that people have tried out and tested. Anyone that would share some of their favorite recipes would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds good! What else do you typically have with the red bell pepper and ginger? I have been wanting to try beets, but I'm not sure I will like it.

Ugh beets! I tried beets and I was not a fan of it at all ): it was a little too "earthy" tasting for me. I actually like the combination of lots and lots of spinach and 2 green apples. I don't really have a specific recipe or anything but I do use the apples and spinach a lot. I also like carrots as well(:

And I'm also considering picking up a juicing recipe book because I've tried google and looked at recipes and I'm the type who likes to read opinions and feedback on the recipes, but most of the sites I went to seriously lacked in feedback.

I have been thinking of buying a juicing recipe book too. I usually use kale, spinach, carrot, and apple every time and change up the other things I add. I WILL NOT use celery again. It didn't taste too bad while drinking it, but it left a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth. I brushed and brushed and couldn't get rid of the awful taste. Ugh, it was bad!

Celery I can actually use. Not too much of it, but some. It's cucumbers I refuse to use anymore. It's so watery and it seems like it doesn't matter what I mix with it, the cucumber overpowers any other taste. I also want to get a better juicer. I just don't know what brands are good.

I use two green apples, a small amount of lemon with the peel on, celery, red bell pepper, ginger and carrots. it really yummy and not over whelming. I cannot stand to use cucumbers, can't even stand to be in the house when my husband uses it.

I got the Jack LaLane juicer from costco, it works great and is less than $100. it also comes with a huge recipe book for juices.

Have you see the move Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead? it's fascinating. Don't know that I would ever go as hard core as they do, but it's something to consider.

The jack LaLane juicer was what I was looking at. I'll have to look around more and compare prices. I have seen that documentary. It was such an inspiration and I wanted to hug both of those men--they did such an amazing job with sticking to the diet! That documentary is definitely something I go back and watch to get motivated!

I occasionally add some beets because they are so good nutritionally. But they are so strong. For me the key is to add very little. Not one of my favs.

I have had ulcers for many years. I read that cabbage (any cabbage family veggies) help to heal an ulcers & diverticulitis. My friend Marilou just found out that drinking the juices has healed her ulcer!

I also add ginger - sparingly!! It also has great healing properties.

I have purchased a book by "the juiceman", lots of recipes and information. I am really excited about doing this!

I have not tried cucumbers yet. I have been wanting to though. Do you guys leave the peeling of the cucumbers on? Seems like I read somewhere to peel them first if you wanted a milder cucumber flavor.

I have seen Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, too. It was very inspirational. For me, seeing it was a Godsend. I don't fast like Joe and Phil, but I try to juice once or twice a day. My band won't allow me to eat many vegetables and fruits, so I love getting in these nutrients without having to stuggle.

readytogoforit, my husband found out he has multiple ulcers (doctor estimated about 8 of them!). He has been losing weight and eating healthier and taking meds to help with the ulcer pain. I will have to let him know about the cabbage. That would be awesome if it could help him!

Yeah cabbage will definitely help with ulcers. I had a friend who's grandmother juiced all the time for her ulcers and it helped her so much. (: I actually love the taste of ginger. My mom used to Cook ginger root in her food and I remember eating them a lot when I was sick and had sore throats. It certainly did help! As for the cucumbers I never peeled mine. Idk, I just never really thought I should peel the cucumber since I read and heard that it wouldn't be harmful if I wanted to keep it on. Lemons I definitely peel. I made the mistake of not peeling it the first time and it was AWFUL.

I peel my lemons too. I think I will peel my cucumbers when I do try them since cucumbers seem to be overpowering. Maybe it will help.

About the cabbage....is it best to juice just cabbage for the ulcers, or can you mix it with other stuff and get the same results? And how much and how often should he be having it? Thanks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
