Nikita,

Congratulations on your decision to have the band. I had it done in Dec 2010. It's had it's ups and downs, and the reason is those darn bad habits! I would encourage you to not wait for your surgery to at least be mindful of what you are eating. Keep a diary or tracker if you can. There are a couple of reasons. Your surgery will go better if you can shrink your liver. I'm sure your doc will tell you this. A second is that your band restricts how much at a time but doesn't do anything for the quality or how often you are eating. Unfortunately, all the good stuff still goes right on down, once you are through post op, and the temptations to eat those things, like chocolate, or too many shakes, or just plain high calorie food in general are still there. A little at a time all the time is not a good thing if it's not the right food, and half or quarter cups still add up to a lot of food if you do it too often. You have to change habits. Getting that up front may help you when the bad ones try to bite you later.

Hello. I am new here. I just had my surgery on feb 21st. I am feeling great. I wasn't doing too well with the 2 week liquid diet. My doctor gave the ok to start soft foods, so I did about 4 days ago. In the last 3 days, I haven't lost any weight, and I am getting discouraged! Any similar stories?

Do not live by the scale. You cannot expect to lose weight every day. You body will go through a lot of adjustments. There may be weeks, maybe even months when you don't lose but don't give up. If you do what you are supposed to do ie; eat right, and get some exercise the scale will move again.

What soft food have you tried? I was banded on 2/27 and feel great. I have tried Jello, cream Soup and spaghetti sauce all went well but im looking to add some substance.

Make sure you have your Dr OK first before adding anything. I know it is hard to stick just to liquids and pureed food but there is a reason for it. I went from puree to cottage cheese and Soups that had small pieces of meat or larger bits of vegetable. YOu have to give your body time to heal and if you force larger and more denser foods than it is ready for, you could end up doing some damage.

I have done those, as well as oatmeal, and eggs. Hard boiled and scrambled. I had a hard time finding the right Protein drink for me, and am still struggling. So my doctor okay'ed the eggs to add some more Protein.< /p>

Wow! I am still in a full liquid diet for another 6 days so that means: Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding and strained cream Soups. I am looking forward to scrambles eggs next Saturday. I did notice that there is a lot of difference in the food transition timetable for different posters. Although I would love an egg, I will stick to the plans the surgeon provided. Good luck and keep me posted! LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
