Protein Bars....

Recommended Posts

I'm now starting to look for Protein Bars to have on hand when I'm out and about. My DH brought home Pure Protein bars from costco today. Calories are 180, total fat 4.5g, Carbs 17g, Protein 20g

Is this ok?

have you started to log the food you eat each day? if not use myfitnesspal.com, so easy to use and see how the day is shaping up.

reason I mentioned that is because most of us eat low carb (my nutritionist said 68 grams a day). many of us eat much less than 68! It is amazing how fast carbs add up. If I eat a Protein Bar, I usually count it as a meal( along with a salad or other veggie).

I don't know this brand and I bet it's tasty, Protein is good that's for sure.

I've eaten that brand for years and have not found anything else that is edible and still has that many grams of Protein.< /p>

I have a Pure Protein Bar nearly every day for Breakfast. They taste good and have the best Protein to carbs/calorie ratio of any bar that I have found. I use them as a Meal Replacement, not as a snack.< /p>

Hi:

I eat them for lunch all the time. Not too many things that have 19 or 20 grams of Protein and less than 200 calories. Actually, I eat them just about a half hour before lunch time because I started walking during my lunch hour again. Trying so hard to get back on track so I can kick this 30 pounds in the &^&.

Best wishes to all of us bandsters!

Sue

Quest bars were just voted No. 1 in taste, Protein and calories by Everyday Health. I've been looking for them everywhere but I guess online only?

I like the Cliff Builder bars. 260 calories for 20g of Protein. Cut them in half for a snack. Eat a whole one for a meal. Very filling. The mint chocolate is particularly good!

I have also tried the "Luna Protein Bars" with 12gms of protein, they taste very good, and that coming from someone that didn't like chocolate bars even before the band. But I also agree with the other posts I usually count it as a meal and I only eat them when I'm at the gym and I'm taking one class after another one and I need that extra bust of energy.

The questbar I had was the strawberry cheesecake and at 160 calories was really good! Better to eat a whole Questbar for 160 calories and 20 grams of protein compared to eating half of a Cliff Bar for 130 and 10 grams protein.

I do wish they were available in a store though, and they are a little pricey.

I agree! Which is why I have been looking for them! Just ordered online. **squeal!**

I've become snooty about my Protein Bars. They gotta have close to 20g of protein or, frankly, they aren't worth my time.

Thank you all for your input and advice on this subject. When asking the question I was asking with my former mind, prior to lapband surgery. A snack, with all those calories, carbs? You all helped to bring me back to reality here. A Protein bar would replace a meal, not a snack. :-)

Thank your "readytogoforit" for reminding me about the amount of carbs we can eat. I'm 5 weeks out and still re-programming my mind to the outside world of WLS.

When going out on errands and such, I make sure I have a Protein Drink in the car with me but now that I am a week away from being filled, I am looking for something more then just liquid to drink. Although the drink is my first choice, I don't want to be stuck out there in fastfood land without one or the other. Since the pre-op diet, I've noticed I've driven by many a fastfood eatery and never once felt a need to get into the drive-in line an I don't want to start now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
