The shake I got from GNC...it's the whey Protein shake....

Here is the list of what I'm afraid of:

Afraid of having a foreign object in my body and turning into a cyborg :)

Afraid of being cut open...

Afraid of it not working

Afraid of not being able to eat my favorite foods (does anyone know how this effects eating sushi:)

Why I'm doing it anyways:

Because I'm tired of fighting with food and myself

Because I want to be able to move freely again

Because being skinny is equated with success in our society

Because I feel like a failure on every diet

Because I need to succeed in this and increase my confidence (back to where it was when I was 130pounds)...there was no stopping me:)

Because I want to wear beautiful clothes! And wear a tankini while running on the beach:)

What's your list?

Ecause

Protein drinks can be bought just about anywhere from Walmart to your local health store or even on line. They are either in powder form and can be mixed into different liquids to create drinks or they come premixed for convenience.

Hello Everyone,

I received notice last week that my insurance approved me. YEA!!! I go tomorrow to run my test and start my preop diet.

So my surgery should be the week of the 19th, find out tomorrow. Hope all goes well...always afraid something will come up and delay or cancel it. THINK POSITIVE! Right?

My daughter had her almost 2 years ago, even though she was right on the border line it has changed her life. Also getting rid of an extra 220 (husband) helped also. So with that I feel like I know pretty much what to expect so I am soooo ready to get back to what I use to be...active and feeling good!

Hope everyone is having a positive experience (: Would love to hear from Ya!

Terri

WOW! This is a great thread. My surgery is the 20th and I am at 2 shakes + dinner, Saturday i switch to all shakes... I LOVE the recipe from @waitingpatiently. I also got a cookbook by Chef Dave Fouts, of all Protein Shake recipes. You can search him on google to get to his site. He has some amazing concoctions.

I love the support on this site! Those htat have gone before us - THANK YOU, those at the same step in the process - we need eachother, and those waiting on approval - we are your support and cheering section.

Thanks all ~

Hi there... My surgery is the 22nd. I started shakes early. I'm struggling, but I remind myself each day that its one day down... Also, I bought myself an empty charm Bracelet as a reminder. I got myself the first bead the day I scheduled my surgery. I am going to wear it every day and buy myself a charm for every goal I reach. When I think of reaching for somehing taboo, I think of the weight on my wrist and remind myself this is done in small steps, one at a

I'm going to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. They require one of the following 1. At least 9 days of Protein shakes, three per day of any brand that is 250 cal or less. 2. At least 14 days of 2 shakes per day and one lean cuisine. Or 3. 30 days of the Atkins induction.

What I've done is bought the Atkins shakes at Walmart, then I add half a serving of enspira shake powder- chocolate ( ordered off the Obesity Control Center website). when I add the powder to chocolate shakes its yummy chocolate, when I add to the vanilla it tastes like a caramel shake. The powder makes the shakes tolerable and they end up being about 225 cal and 26g Protein

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
