Difference Between Chewable And Gummy Vitamins?

Recommended Posts

my nutritionist has advised me to take chewable viatamins and chewable Calcium plus D... I was just wondering if there's a difference between Gummy and chewable vitamins? has anyone had an issue using gummy vitamins?

I started taking the chewable vitamins after my surgery and hated the taste so I asked my surgeon's office if I could start doing the gummy vitamins. I was told that the reason you have to do the chewable kind is because the Gummy Vitamins do not contain Iron or thiamin. Hope that helps!

My understanding is that you should eat chewable, as opposed to Gummy, because they will dissolve and not get stuck. A gummy Vitamin can be like eating a gummy bear... may not go down easily. But everyone is different and it may also depend on your level of restriction. I personally use Flintstone Vitamins. I like the taste and they go down just fine.

I forgot to take my chewable one morning and when I got to work, a co-worker gave me one of her gummy vitamins. It didn't get stuck, per se`, but I could tell it was not going down very easy. The feeling lasted about 10 minutes. So, if you are told to take the chewables, start off with a small bottle of those and go from there. I also use the Flintstone Vitamins, reminds me of my youth!

I am actually taking the gummy vitamins with no problem, but I chew them till it's almost liquid, but like ev1988 said, it doesn't have the proper Vitamins in it, so I have to take B12 and Calcium in a different form. Plus my doctor says that it could possibly stick to your band, not good. So when I finish what I have I am going to take Viactin that they have suggested. The less pills the better:)

I take Centrum chewables, although my doctor told me I could just take 2 Flintstones. I also take the Viactin Calcium. They're chocolate and I actually look forward to them twice a day. Also got Barleans liquid fish oil (even sounds gross) and I used to add it to my smoothies when I was on all liquids, but haven't started adding it to anything else. I just don't think I could tolerate swigging a spoonful, flavored or not.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
