Still Getting Neck Pain, 1 Month After Surgery.

Recommended Posts

I am 1 month into my lap band surgery and feeling really good. But on occasions I still get this irritating neck pain like I had right after surgery. I was told that it was gas build up from the surgery back then, but what would cause it now!

I had 2 scrambeled eggs this morning for Breakfast and a Turkey and sweet potato Lean Cuisine for lunch, which was very lean and very small portion and a bottled Water throughout the morning and afternoon. I don't feel like anything is stuck, just pain in the back of the neck and shoulders. Anyone get that kind of pain still? What causes it for you?

I used to get this ALL the time up until my second to last fill. I would get it if I ate too much or too fast. It felt exactly like the gas pain after surgery. ANNOYING!!! My surgeon said it's from the diaphragm being irritated and radiating pain up the vegas (sp?) nerve?

For whatever reason, it's gone away. Now if I eat too much I get a slight headache, which for sure beats the annoying pain in the shoulder/neck. I had it for about a year, btw.

It is pressure on the vegas nerve, It may mean that you have eaten too much so try to be aware of the subtle signals that your body gives you

If it seems like it comes on when you eat, try eating half as much at a meal for a day or two...if it goes away you'll know you need to eat less or eat slower.

I get this sometimes, I chalk it up to I just ate to much. I'm still learning to eat slower...I've done that a couple times and get full before my cup of food is up. If i eat faster I get the shoulder/neck pain.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
