Surgery Tomorrow! Yikes!!"

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all good wishes and prayers from each of you. Corriana, I have to say YOU truly do have a remarkable amount of loss. AWESOME! Very impressive!

I have to be at hospital at 6:00 a.m. so hopefully I will get in and out before I even have time to stress over it.

Thank you again. See you all on the other side!

Well...

I am now banded! I had a bit of a rough past 2 days. I just felt bad. The gas is horrid. I can't get it all out. Especially my left shoulder. Geez! Today is a bit better so I feel good enough right now to finally post. Thanks for all the support here. It sure was nice to know what to expect. This gas pain needs to go!! Ouch! And annoying. My belly is sore at incision site, but feels a little bit better. I don't feel like I want to eat. But oh how horrible these empty stomach pains are!

Corianna, thank you. When ya'll drink your Protein Shakes do you have the whole shake at a time? My doc / nutrition orders says only have 2 oz. liquid meals 6 times a day. And in between to sip on Water, crystal light, etc... I am finding it hard to be sure I get at least 50 g of Protein. It has helped to use the Protein Shots ( from walmart) that have 26 g, however.... to try to stick with my orders...it takes me a few meals to get it in. Oh boy, wont it be easier when mushies can be added.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
