I'm on a Bender (Last Supper Syndrome)

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

For 3 weeks now, I've been on a bender. I'm eating the foods I know I can't eat with the band (cupcakes, Pasta, etc)

I feel horrible, I'm so glutted with food (you know that feeling?)

ANyone else go through this??

(raising my hand high) Yep, I was a pre-surgery binger, too!

But you know what I found out is that I didn't need to be. I have found that after being banded they just didn't appeal to me or I would get very full after only a couple of bites (after a good fill). It really hasn't been a big deal. I don't "miss" anything in particular. It'll be alright - you'll see.

But I did have McDonalds french fries the night before being banded-yum! (and cheesecake)

I'm sorry you're feeling bad - when are you being banded? I hope it's soon!

I tried. OMG I tried. I wanted Cracker Barrel so badly that I was going insane! But I have a watch Dawg who wouldn't let me. *sobs*

I know exactly how youre feeling. It's almost a dread of losing the foods you love so much. Try to ease your mind by remembering that you aren't going to be deprived of these things forever. Only for a short time. You can do this for a short time, right? Lord knows how many times I did it for a short time. But the sweet thing about this time is - youre going to have your band to keep you from falling back to square one!

And Leener, you're only giving yourself more weight to work off with the band. You know this. Instead of thinking about your lapband journey beginning the day you get your band, perhaps decide that today is the first day of the band journey. You'll feel so much better by the time you get the band! I promise! *hugs*

Oh, and buy a cowbell. Run around the house playing your cowbell whenever youre temtped to eat! LOL

I've got a fever!!!

I had surgery 3 1/2 years ago. I didn't do any last supper stuff..just didn't think of it and was busy getting ready to move into my new house at the time. I also got the stomach flu (very last time I ever truly vomited was the day before surgery)so I went down to Mexico sick and thought I was going to be delayed for surgery, but Dr Kuri took care of me and I recovered from the stomach flu quickly.

Anyway..I have to say you will be able to just about anything after surgery..including cupcakes and Pasta. Cupcakes will be easier to eat..pasta can be gluey.

The only thing I probably "mourn" is the ability eat a whole hamburger..bun and stuff and all. I have eaten hamburgers since banding, but usually have to pick it apart, removing the bun or parts of it. I just miss chowing down on a whole thing without pulling it apart and looking wierd. But other than that..depending on current levels of restriction..but you just won't be able to eat the volume you did before of these foods...which is why we have the band in the 1st place right?

So..don't go too crazy and wind up gaining weight pre-surgery. food eating WILL be different..sometimes a pain in the a$$ worrying what textures go together..how much to bite and chew (after 3+ years, I may still chew and swallow too fast!) But you can enjoy just about anything..you WILL test your own bounderies..everyone is different.

Good luck with your surgery date!

I can really relate! I ate non-stop until I had to start on Protein Drinks. I gained about 7 pounds, which of course was just 7 more to loose. I really think I needed to eat. I had been on so many crazy diets I think I just needed to eat what I had been "depriving" myself of. I talked to my husband about my need to eat, he he had the gall to point out that when it comes to my eating habits I am the "queen of denial!"

I figured my new life started from the minute I made the final decision to have surgery. I didnt have to do the pre op diet but I made positive changes right from that minute.

You dont want even more weight to lose than you have already.

Oh man, I hear ya. I don't even have a date set and I'm already eating as if I'm never going to eat again. I agree with Terri B. After so many diets and forbidden foods, it feels very liberating to just eat whatever, whenever. But I know it isn't the healthiest thing for me. But hey, it could be worse, we could be drinking and smoking to excess. food seems a little more benign than many indulgences.

Hey all,

I'm so glad I posted this because your so right. I have put on 10 lbs already. I can hardly breath and couldn't button my coat today. For some reason, I thought I'd never be able to eat these food again..I don't want to have to work off this new weight, I'm dangerously overweight as it is!

Tomorrow I start with a new mindset. Thanks so much.

It's like someone slapped me into thinking. Weird.

OMG! That's my last name. Can I tell you how many jokes I get about it?

I went through the mourning of food. Still do after each fill. I was sitting here tonight hoping, wishing, praying I could have a HUGE FUDDRUCKERS hamburger. I'm not sure it ever ends. Cravings are cravings....

I too went through LSS. I gained about 15 lbs from the time I met my doctor until I had surgery.

Getting banded is not the end of the world. You WILL be able to eat. Remember it's the cupcakes and stuff that got you overweight, that seems to help me when I feel deprived (which is rarely).

Best of luck to you on your surgery!! You will do great!

Yep- I had it badly, but for some reason, I didn't gain any weight between the time I had my date set and the actual surgery date.

I still have my moments. Just today I didn't feel like cooking when I got home so I went to Jack in the Box to get my daughter something to eat and I was looking at her Jumbo Jack with my mouth just watering! I asked her for a bite and she said NO! Mom you cannot have bread. Those are your words. I was like WOW! Words of wisdem from an 11-year old.

I had to lose 5 lbs and keep it off before my surgery. I was told that if I was up even 1 lb I'd be taken off the surgery schedule. So, no last supper for me. Then they didn't even weigh me before surgery, lol! I can laugh now, but boy I wanted a last supper then.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
