Its been two years since I got the lap band. My hair was super long and thick before surgery and now it's thin and barely will grow past my shoulders!

Any advice on how to get it to grow again?

Thanks!

No I don't but I might start. I just don't know how many mg would be good for it!? I don't want to take way too much or way too little:/

My doctor says if that happens I'm not getting enough Protein. He also suggested flax seed oil 2 gel tabs a day, Nioxin Shampoo and 200 mcg Selenium per day. Good luck!

depending on if you can eat them, a few brazil nuts a day are supposed to supply a healthy dose of selenium (spelling ?) a nutrient that is supposed to be good for hair and skin. also salmon , broccoli, and tuna , i think.. i would talk with a nutritionish if it doesnt get better. good luck.

I am nowhere near that far in my journey but I do know I started on Biotin as soon as I started my supervised diets. It has done wonders for my hair, skin and nails. My hair has grown 2 inches alone in about 3 weeks which is NOT normal for me.

I would definitely try it!

I can vouch for the Biotin as well. My hair was very thick before I started losing all this weight. I started losing the hair and I mean a lot was coming out. I would take a shower and could get a handful of hair out of the drain everyday. I started taking the Biotin and it has really slowed the Hair loss down. I also see tons of new growth coming in as well. My hair never got too terribly thin. Thank goodness I had really thick hair to start with. I actually like it better now. The biotin comes in doses everything from 600 mg to 5000 mg. I bought the 600 mg simply because I didnt want to overdo it. I didnt know if you could take too much. I asked my doc and he said to take 2 of the 600 mg until I finish those and if I needed to get more after I finish this bottle I could buy a bigger dose. It really seems to be working well for me. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
