Getting Stuck And Vomitting A Lot! Help!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded in December and had my first fill 5 weeks ago. Since then I have been stuck a lot and vomitting nearly every day.

I have taken some advice from this site and been back on mushie food for a few days to settle any possible swelling which seemed to help a bit.

Do you think I might be overfilled? And how do you tell that your band has slipped? I'm really getting worried.

Have docto's appointment next week.

How much of a fill did you get? It does sound as if you're too tight. If you can't keep fluids down, you need to see your surgeon ASAP. If you can keep fluids down, stick to fluids for a few days, then switch to mushies till you see the dr, but if you're vomiting and can't keep down fluids, you're at serious risk for becoming dehydrated. Call the DR.

Take SMALL bites and chew very well. Also, I have found that certain foods get stuck for me more than others. chicken and all breads are an absolute NO for me since my fill. I also got my band in December, just just had my first fill 2 weeks ago (due to my port flipping) I have started using a baby spoon to eat with because it forces me to take smaller bites. This was suggested by the coordinator for my doctors office. If you are doing all that and still getting stuck, I would call your doctor and let him know. Are you able to drink liquids ok?

You should be able to get back on trck with mushies...after that chew your food to the point where it would be if it has been in a blender and take long breaks between bites so you know it is going down and sitting well.

If you have been vomiting everyday, I would go in for a slight unfill. Your stomach is prob pretty swollen around that band. The first day that things were going slow and then I was starting to not be able to swallow saliva, I got right in. She took out the .4 she put in me the week before and I felt instant relief. Tomorrow I go back and this time will try .2 and follow the 5 day pouch test.

Your band is too tight. Go get an unfill before you get a slip and ruin the whole thing! This sounds like an emergency situation to me. I have never vomited and the only stucks I've had are "soft" stucks where the food goes down after walking a bit. Listen to your body, not your doctor. When I got my first fill, I walked around the lobby a bit, felt too tight (shoulder pain and generally just didn't feel well) and asked him to take some out. He seemed a little frustrated with me for making him re-do the job, but that's just too bad. That's what we pay them for!

Thanks Feliciadawn, I will try and see my doctor earlier than next week. It's really starting to get to me and you're right, I don't want to do any serious damage.

www.5daypouchtest.com This is the 5-day plan that I have developed and used to determine if my pouch is working and return to that tight newbie feeling. And a bonus to this plan, it helps one get back to the basics of the weight loss surgery diet and it triggers weight loss. Also, it is not difficult to follow and if you are in a stage of carb-cycling it will break this pattern. Sounds pretty good, right?''

I want to make sure I don't cause myself problems after my next fill, so I will follow this plan. I usually only do soft foods the first day after a fill and I know I caused my own problems after the last fill.

I have been in the same cycle. You need to stay on mushies & liquids as you are very swollen if you have been getting stuck daily. Also try taking proboics pill daily. This helps with digestion. But you may also need a small unfill. What foods are you getting stuck on? Good luck!

Thanks Kristi! meat appears to be the worst culprit, followed by potatoes and bread. I think I do want a small unfill. I have Probiotics at home, but am worried because they are capsules. Won't I get stuck on them as well?

You are too tight! Call your doctor and tell them you have an emergency situation. I am at restriction and knock on wood have never vomitted. Also my doctor says if I can't eat solid Protein 3 days after a fill I am too tight.

you say you are 5 weeks out from your first fill. When I was first banded I checked in every 2 weeks. I din;t get my first fill till 4 weeks, but then it was every 2 weeks after that. I would get in there just to be checked.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
