Newbie Question-What Does It Feel Like?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have one of those " newbie" questions. I was wondering what the band itself feels like. Does it feel like you have a knot in your stomach all the time....you know ...thatfeeling you get when you are under a lot of stress? Does it every feel natural? Or will it always feel foriegn?

I know that the port will be able to be felt, but my hope was to one day feel like the band was natural....not something you are always awhere of....id that possible.

Thanks everyone,,,for being so nice and answering all our "newbie" questions. This site has been a great resource!!

Hello :) I don't feel a thing, I can poke my port, only of corse when it pokes me.. I swear I could just break out into a poke war with it!! Evil alien. It dosent hurt, it's just an odd pulling kind of feeling, as far as feeling the actual band I don't feel it at all. :)

I don't feel anything at all. The only time I feel the band itself is during a fill, and then it doesn't hurt it's just an odd squeezing sensation that passes very quickly. The only time I feel my port is when I'm actively trying to feel it with my hand.

Otherwise, they're just like any other part of me. I don't feel them.

The only time I "feel" the band is when I try to eat something I shouldn't or more than I should have - and that's what it is meant to do. I could honestly say I don't even feel the band except when I try to do the wrong thing. I can feel my port, like the others said, but it has never been painful or cause any sort of an issue.

I dont feel my band at all, but ofc you know its there .. my port is placed on my breast bone so i never notice that either .. seems the uk often do port placement on the breast bone to avoid port flips, as its sutured to bone it rarely moves.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
