Nervous About Going Under

As long as both of your doctors know your concerns I'm sure they'll put you at ease. You'll be out before you blink and waking up in recovery. Prayer helps tremendously too! smile.png

you are so right... prayer certainly does help

So how have you been doing since surgery? This is another concern I have......how do you feel the following two weeks after surgery? Does your throat or esophageal area feel swollen or sore?

I have been fine since the surgery. I was kept a couple extra days because I developed a fever and my heart rate was elevated but it ended up being nothing. My throat was a little sore and scratchy after surgery, I wasn't able to talk that clearly, but that soon faded away in a few hours. I too have asthma and I do think it may have had something to do with the fever (fever caused by mucus not leaving the lungs which leads to pnemonia). I just asked for an albuteral treatment and the respiratory dept came and beat on my back to lossen the mucus. Must have work because my fever went away after the treaments. Two weeks out and I still do have some soreness near my port area and I do develope cramps on my right side where the port is when I over exert myself. Spoke with the nurse and they said that was normal. I got real tired of the full liquid diet and am completely over purees. Lol.

I have also had asthma since childhood and had a fair few surgeries over the years, it really never affected my asthma at all, i was more concerned with having to lay flat as i have always slept with at least 2 pillows. The hospital were great they let me have my head raised till i was out cold and i never knew, didnt have any issues after surgery either. I have a 4 -5 hour plastic surgery coming up in June this year, now thats a lot scarier than my little lap band op :)

Anethesia pretty much just gave me a nauseous feeling, but that eventually went away. Other than that it didn't really affect me very much. I remember waking up again in the same room I had left my parents in, so apparently I was still out of it while doing 2 hours in recovery. I was banded last March (actually a year ago, today)

sark87.. how has this last year been for you?? have you had successful weight loss?

sark87.. how has this last year been for you?? have you had successful weight loss?

The last year has definitely been a rollercoaster. I had more than one breakdown after surgery about not getting to eat what I wanted anymore, or at least not WHEN I wanted to eat anymore. My grandfather had his 80th birthday shortly after my surgery, and my parents held a party for him with numerous finger foods - none of which I could eat. It was hard.

I still struggle figuring out how much I can eat, as my pouch tends to argue with me over not chewing enough or taking bites that are too big. I can no longer do really thick bread, onions, asparagus, raw salami, and some forms of rice. Also lately I've been having trouble with French fries or meats/fish that are too tough.

At some times my weight would hit a plateau, which also would happen when I'd try losing weight before surgery. It was frustrating, but going in to get a new fill in my port would jumpstart it, sometimes. Right now I've hit a plateau, again, so I may need another fill. I'm reluctant to do so, though, because even now with my current fill amount I'm having to throw back up a lot of what I eat, on account of eating too much or too fast.

But I wouldn't trade any of these setbacks for my pre-surgery weight. I was huge, and it showed. I never want to go back to that again. I'm glad I went through this.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
