Need Some Input-Banded 11 Months Ago And Am Only Down 25 Lbs

I have my 1 year appointment on March 26th and I feel like I need to start over on the nutruition side of things. Somewhere in the last 3 months I have gotten completely off track. I lost my nutrution info from my doctor's office to boot! Any input on how I can get a good 10 lbs off by then and get re-energized into this journey? I tried talking to a friend about it but she doesn't understand because she doesn't have a weight issue or the band. I'm really frustrated and thought I would reachout to fellow bandsters. Any input on a daily routine that makes you successful?

Are you following your band rules? Concentrate on solid Protein and complex carbs, don't snack, lots of Water, small bites, chew well, no liquids with meals, no liquids with calories, and beware of slider foods?

How is your restriction level? You say "only 25 lbs down" but you know, 1/2 a pound a week average is nothing to sneeze at. I could not have done that without a band, could you? You say you've gotten off track the last three months, ok. Have you gained or maintained? Are you listening to your body or eating anyway?

If you are listening to your body, and eating when hungry--if you are still not losing, then you are most likely due for a fill. I say good for you for reaching out!! Well done!

I would have to ask you How much Protein are you taking in daily? How many carbs are you taking in daily? Are you keeping a food journal? Then the big question, How much are you exercising? If you are doing all these things the way that your surgeon has advised you to do it then you may need a fill. OR maybe your too tight, are you vomiting alot with meals? Do you seem to get stuck everytime you eat? I too was banded 11 months ago and that is a problem that I had. I plateaued because I was too tight and threw up every meal I ate. I actually started turning to slider foods for a bit because I felt like I was starving. Unfortunatley during this time I was out of town for 6 weeks and could not go see my surgeon. So when I got back he did an unfill and then I have had to work back up on my band Fluid a bit but have now seemed to have hit my sweet spot. I am losing steadily. I eat 3 small meals a day. Usually a yogart and a half of a banana for Breakfast, then I go to the gym for 45 min for and hour Mon-Fri. Come home from the gym and drink a Protein Shake and shower, then eat tuna or chicken on pita bread for lunch and a veggie if I still feel hungry after the sandwhich. dinner is usually a recipe from lapband.com something also high in protein low in carbs and a veggie. Snacks in between if i get hungry are string cheese, cottage cheese, fruit, or light popcorn. I also drink 4-5 16 oz bottles of Water daily. I would definately go in and talk to your surgeon or give him/her a call, or if they have a dietician in their office that you can speak with do that. Also if you have any bariatric support groups in your area those are so helpful and you meet and can talk to people that you can relate to and you can set goals together. I hope this helps. This is something I am concerned about. I haven't been banded yet, but I worry that I will be one of those who only loses 25 pounds or so. I need to lose about 110. I have the discipline to do this, but I had the discipline to do everything else I have tried, and nothing really worked. sad.png I am trying to stay positive. I am just ready to get it going!!

Thanks for your input ladies. When I really think about it the reality is I have been eating too much slider food and not enough Protein. I stopped journaling too which was also a mistake. I am trying to find veggies that work. I've had problems with peas (regular and snap) and sometimes I have problems with green Beans and asparagus.

I have lacked discipline but I'm not giving up and am ready to get back on track.

I've been poking around the website and it looks like I need to focus on 60-70 grams of Protein per day. I just got so sick of chicken there for awhile.

Look at your other Protein sources - dairy, eggs, red meat, pork, fish, shellfish, legumes! You don't have to live on chicken!

yellow squash (the frozen kind in a bag) has been one that has been really easy for me and I have found I love it! Also fresh spinach, wash it throw it in a pan with a lid and steam it goes down easy, also good source of Fiber. oikos greek yogart (dannon) has 12 grams of Protein per cup and depending on the fruit between 19 and 21g of carbs per cup. I have found Slim fast Protein Shakes are amazing (low carb diet chocolate) they have 20g of protein per bottle. Walmart carries these. Turkey burgers are great too. Just a few foods that have helped me get back on track when I have strayed from my path a little. Good Luck to you! :)

I am so glad I logged in today! I've been gone for MONTHS! I was banded over a year ago and I had not lost any weight in 4 months then started gaining. I knew what I was doing wrong but haven't cared. I care now! I never want to go back to the "old me". I needed some motivation and came here today. Thank you all for the basics and reminders. I think we all need to hear it from time to time. I too have been doing too many sliders because I still want to eat fast! Today I am feeling like I CAN do it and I went through a lot to get here, so why give up now??? You can do it too! We are worth it. We have to remember NOTHING tastes as good as looking good/feeling good feels!! Let's do it!!

Omg its possible to get sick of chicken?? Mmm..

Slider foods are foods that slide thru the band instead of sitting on top if it, generally defeating its purpose. These are often unhealthy and unfortunately a lot easier to eat sometimes. :/

for a good Protein snack try Turkey Jerky. 10 grams of protein per serving. its not salty like regular jerky, if you dont find it in the reg grocery stores, try a sporting goods stores like Big 5, Sportsmans Warehouse, or costco. Yummy !!.

You could also try www.myfitnesspal.com to log your food and exercise. That will give you a really clear picture of how many calories you are taking in and how many you are burning, all of which helps to get back/stay on track.

There is no list for slider foods, they can be different for everyone. They are foods that "slide" through your band easily, paying no attention to whatever restriction you may have. chips and ice cream/milkshakes are fairly universal, though some people have trouble with the cold of ice cream. Generally highly processed foods go down easily.

For me the list is chips, chocolate, liquids, yogurt, cheese, Cookies, and sometimes nuts. I need to be aware when I am eating these foods and limit myself so that I don't brainlessly eat.

OMG. It was like I wrote this. I had the same thing except it was around Christmas. I had become very cavalier about the whole process and was up 8 lbs. The first gain since surgery. I was mortified. Gotta fill.

So...I made an appointment with the other nutritionist the surgeon has. (I had not really warmed up to the primary one we all get.) This was right before Christmas and we really just went over the basics, figured out my pitfalls and put a Christmas plan together. We even went over my favorite foods/meals and talked about how to shave off calories.

It really helped and she is what I always had thought a good nutritionist should be...a cheerleader and mentor. I dropped 9 lbs over the holidays and have been doing pretty well since. (I also met with my psych doc for good measure.)

I am of the opinion that your professional support team is so important and the nutritionist seems to be the least appreciated. I am very lucky that I have one that is so fabulous. She even lets me email her with questions!

Good luck! From what I have been told what you are going through is not uncommon but that you have recognized will help you get there!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
