Just Starting The Process....

Recommended Posts

Hello, all. I am new here and I am just beginning my journey. My first consultation appointment is March 15. I already know my insurance requires three months with a registered dietician, so I have my doctor working on getting me set up with one. I am 43 years old and I have been fighting my weight since I was a teen. Last year, I had to have bilateral knee surgeries done because my kneecaps weren't in the right place and I had a lot of pain when exercising. This was supposed to HELP my weightloss journey, only it didn't work. Now I can't walk for more that 6 blocks or so without pain. I can't do stairs. I am miserable. I have put on 35 more pounds since the surgeries and the doctors say if I lose weight, it would help. HELLO?! I KNOW this! I also was just diagnosed with high blood pressure. I found out that my insurance will cover bariatric surgery if you have certain qualifiers, and my doctor believes that I fit them all. I am nervous, excited and most of all, impatient! I want this done tomorrow! I am not looking to be skinny. I just want to be able to function throughout my day and not be in pain. I have been reading a lot of your posts on here and they have answered a lot of my questions. I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Hopefully I will be able to post some successes soon!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
