Port In Wrong Place For Me

Recommended Posts

I'm sure most ports are placed in the same area. Mine is on the right side somewhat toward the center below my ribcage. I am 5'10 so I'm perfect height for my port to bump into everything. When I'm cooking, the port area hits the counter; when I'm at school, the desktop hits the port. It's hard for me to work on my ab area because to bend constantly it hurts because my port is right there in the fold. I am thankful for my weight loss, but dang when I'm bruised and sore it really sucks :(

Ports seem to be placed in many places. Mine is to the left of my belly button. I can get irritated my waist bands. I think every placement has its good and bad points.

Mine is in center of chest just at bottom of bra line. Weird place but seems to stay out of the way. But now it really sticks out.

I'm no banded yet (until next week) but thought I read somewhere that if your port starts bothering you after weight loss, it can be changed to a smaller port. ? Not sure how much that actually entails.

Mine is on the left, just under my ribs. Depending how I sit or lay down, I can irritate it sometimes. Just have to adjust my position to help. I can feel it easily, hoping it won't be too noticeable when I'm thinner.

Thanks for bringing this topic up. How does your surgeon decided where to place the port? Were you asked in advance about where you'd like it? It bothers me if my bra rides up slightly or the straps shift, so I definitely would not want the port rubbing against the waistband of my clothing.

I have heard of many different port locations since joining LBT in 2009. It really depends on the surgeon and how they like to do the actual surgery. I wish they would think about the patient' comfort for years to come.

I'm very happy with my port location. It really never gets in the way or cause discomfort. It is centered about 1 1/2 - 2" below my sternum.

I didn't have any choice in location, and never thought to ask. Allergan has two ports, a regular one and a low profile. My surgeon uses the standard port in original op, but will do a revision if the patient wants one later.

He did tell me in a conversation after my op that he's found surgeons have a wide range of port locations, all due to personal preference. He likes his location (to the left of the belly button) because it doesn't have a lot of tubing running to it, and it has some fat to cushion it.

I don't like it because some pants bother me along the waistband. But it cannot be seen, even if I were to wear a two-piece bathing suit. Unlikely at my age.

My port is also in the bend of my waist and to the left of my belly button. It is hard to exercise at times. I'm very short waisted. I want to do zumba but afraid to pay money for something I wouldn't be able to do. I do stay sore under the rib area, could it be that I need to have the port moved? I wonder.

Good topic. Mine is on the left, slightly below my ribs. It does bother me if I bend at the waist, maybe because I'm short, 5'3. I think once I'm skinny it probably won't bother me as much, plus I'm only a few weeks post op and still not able to even sleep on my left side. But I was quite annoyed the first time I bent over and realized "Porticia" was having a tantrum!

13 days in and not one problem..no pain, no rubbing. I knwo it's under there somewhere to the right of my belly buttom and about an inch higher. I put Vit. E oil on the spot and it's smooth as a babys butt !

Mine was higher up orginally, above my waistline and it was good, pretty out of the way. Then I had my body lift and it was repositioned just to the right of my belly button. Now most work pants I buy sit right on it, and can be uncomfy. I try to get lower waisted pants, but I don't think they looks as professional, esp seeing as I'm almost 42 and am in senior management.

I'm due for a tubing and port replacement in a few days, so may ask the surgeon if he can place it just a smidge higher up.

Mine is a few inches above my waistline and slightly off to the right. I told my surgeon the area I needed it to be because I am very shortwaisted and did not want my pant waist to rub against the port. I also had a previous scar there from gallbladder surgery so he ran the port scar along the same scar which I appreciated because it was one less scar showing.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
