Hello everyone i am new as of yesterday to this website. My name is Kim i was banded tuesday 2-21-12. Had a hard time in recovery with nausea and dry heaving, so i stayed in the hospital that 1 day, i was an out patient as first. i can not get comfortable sleepin i can sleep on my back and right side but there is no way i can sleep on my left side hurts way to much. i am entering the 2nd phase of the diet menu and a lil scaried to eat something new cuz i dont want to get them dry heaves again. i had a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago i feel like i did better recovery with 37 staples then compared to 13 staples i am always feelin weak i do start Protein Drinks today which i hope makes me feel alot better. i am one to get up and go and not be so sluggish. if there is anyone with any good food ideas in the 2nd phase i will love to try i am sick of chicken broth lol. My 2nd phase on my meal plan consists of foods up to the consistency of yogurt without clumps such as milk )skim milk), veggie juice (yuck) sugar free pudding, non fat no sugar ygurt w/no pieces, cream of wheat, unsweetened applesauce, low fat creamed Soups, no pieces ( which soups are those if anyone can help), baby food- fruits pureed w/no seeds, baby pureed meat, small curd cottage cheese, fruit juice bars no sugar added, and my Protein drinks which my daughter is gettin them for me today at GNC the Isopure has 12 flavors a bit pricey but has 40 grams of protein in each bottle. i also get indigestion hiccups and ooooohh my it hurts for a few i know i am sore but why the hippups?

Kim, I'm short waisted so my port is right under my breast and right above my waist. What you're feeling is normal. It will be sore and or tender for a few weeks. I like sleeping on my sides too but couldn't for the first few day. I ended up plopping up a pillow on my left side to be able to sleep on that side but if I turned on the right, I felt the weight of the port pulling, or perhaps it was all the swelling from the surgical site. I didn't wear my bra the first few days either since I wasn't going anywhere which actually felt good not to wear one. Again, the swelling and tenderness, for me anyway, just took some time.

you are in what the older lap banders call "lapband hell"... I am 16 days post op now. when i first got home the port incision was achey. If i moved the wrong way it pulled and burned. sleep was literally a nightmare. I surrounded myself with pillows and slept upright. i had to stand up after every liquid meal and then listen to a serenade of the anvil chorus in stomach sounds. i was nauseated most of the time, bloated and plain miserable... that said.... the good news.. is it all gets better with time. and Now at 16 days i still have soreness at the port but the rest of me is normalizing and today for the first day in what feels like half a lifetime i got up and walked to starbucks, sat and had a green tea with stevia.. and marched back. and guess what.. i feel like i have returned to the land of the living. you will too..

I didn't have shortness of breath but it feel like I couldn't take a deep breath. Like my diaphragm wouldn't expand that much or something. don't know how else to explain it. As for the Soups, i just bought regular creamed soups like cream of mushroom, potato etc. then used a small strainer to take out the chunks. Some people also will puree in that part.

this is my most update it is 6:41pm on 2-24-2012 and i had an urge of energy, where it came from i have no idea got up to pee slipped on my sandals put on a sweater and headed outside walked the yard around the pool and went down my driveway and back, and it felt wonderful!!!! i am sweating like a piggie but it felt great, i am thinking the Protein Shakes are helpin some what even tho i had 1/2 of glass i will work up to a full one day but as long as i dont feel as much pain i will feel better. i read on the bottle of the Protein Powder that Protein helps ur muscles heal and any infections u might have and soreness. i am feel a lot better right now lets see how the night brings me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
