1000 Calories, Gym 5 Days A Week..no Weight Loss!

You're so right, it's all in the mind. Your body doesn't NEED chocolate, sugary Snacks, soda, beer etc. It's your mind that driving you to it and controlling the way you think negatively about your weight loss what is such a great achievement so far.

Wow, sounds like me exactly!!! I was banded in 2008 also. I lost about 50 lbs the first year then had to have my port replaced in 2009 due to a leak. I really did not get back to good restriction after that, lost my motivation and gained back every pound I had lost and ended up back at my preop weight over the course of 2 years. Then it's like a lightbulb went off and it all clicked last fall. I'm back on track and have lost 50 lbs since October. That said...I hit a plateau in January and the scale did not budge. I was doing cardio 4-5 times a week and eating around 1000 calories. Did a lot of research, and decided to up my calories to 1200-1300 and added in weight training. Almost instantly the scale started to fly down. Just that little change shocked my body, I guess. One thing I notice is that when the scale is stuck, the inches are coming off and vice versa. Stay on track, try some changes in your routine and you'll find what clicks. We went through this major surgery and we need to make it work for us! Like you said, we're just late bloomers! :)

Wow Kyla 1226, thanks so much for the encouragement! I too had lost 50 and regained it! We really do sound alike! I am definately on board now, and I need to do this! I did get in touch with my dietician yesterday and she is emailing me a specific diet, calories will have to be increased, and hopefully it will be exactly what I need to see some movement again. Its been a month of 1000 calories and 5 days a week excercising...only 5 pounds down!! That is super discouraging. I would love to see my scale fly down too! I guess late bloomers do exist! Thanks again rolleyes.gif

You're welcome! Let me know if you get discouraged. I have about 55 lbs left to lose and plan on being there by Thanksgiving! I can't wait to finally conquer this! :)

Better 5 pounds down than 5 pounds up! Even if you just maintain, you are doing something by not gaining! It sounds as if you have received and are taking some good advice, so hopefully you'll see more progress. While it's disappointing to feel as if you are working for nothing, yo actually are accomplishing something, and that's trading bad habits for good ones. That is what will will make the difference in the end.

Did not shift a lb from December to march ad then this morning 3 lbs down so I am a happy bunny today. It may take a long time but but but it will happen don't give up.

It is not enough to reduce weight. You have to do some extra activities. You did not wrote about eating habits. which type of foods do you eat. Only exercise is not enough for weight loss. you have to do other activities like swimming, running, walk, jogging etc. Neglect all the oily, fat and high Protein foods items. Use fresh fruits and boiled vegetables mostly. Also drink 8 to 10 glasses of Water. It help to minimize and burn fat quickly.

Are you measureing your food 4 oz each meal total? My entire lap band experience has been ALL about the measurement of what you are eating at each meal. Of course eating healthy high protien to stay satisfied. I kinda think counting calories only may be slowing your weight loss down. If you are not satisfied with 4 oz each meals and lite Snacks during the day you need a fill. Good luck

I can relate to u I also took up walking and keeping track on my calories which is 600/900 a day and nothing so fed up. Hubby on 2000 calories and this morning lost 3 lbs in 5 days (he has no band). Sooooo fed up.

You just have to learn your energy balance, which is different for everyone - but basic principles always apply unless you have very complicating chemical interferences. Its a balance of keeping a red hot metabolism through intake versus export. You will not be able to starve yourself thin and healthy... The human body is a survivor and it adapts to its' environment.... Calculate your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) and try eating about 500-750 calories less than that.... If you still don't lose after 3-4 weeks of honest calculations - then you should consult physician and start looking at chemical imbalances. Eating too few calories and killing your metabolism is a very common occurrence in band land and why so many surgeon's and nutritionists push low calorie diets is beyond me... They just don't work... They leave you tired, stalled, and frustrated... You can't be afraid to eat!

I was banded in 2008 as well. Lost 100lbs in the first two years. Had a slight slip & had to be unfilled. Got a fill of 1cc a year ago. Gained back 40lbs in two years. Just saw my doc and he wants an upper GI which wasn't done b4 the 1cc fill. Still having issues from time to time with things getting stuck. Anyway long story short. I too went done to 1000 cal diet and busted my butt at the gym 5 days a week. Elliptical, running, and some light weight training. I've had the 5lb yoyo too!! Weight seemed to fly off the first two years. Did some thinking and research and discovered that I have one difference Carbs. I was eating carbs and two years ago I wasn't. I just cut the simple carbs, (sugar& whites) and I'm down 6lbs. I'm also feeling a LOT better. Good luck! You'll find what work for you. You're certainly going about it the right way. Be proud! You're doing great!

I sure could use some advice from you old pro's. I was banded in 2008' date=' never did well on the diet or lost much weight. Since January of this year (late bloomer I guess) have decided to finally kick myself into gear. I went to the doctor and now have 4 cc in my band after removing 2 cc due to overfilled complications. I have been logging all of my food on MFP, eating 1000 calories a day (per my doc's order) and have been at the gym for an hour 5-6 days a week. (Mostly eliptical and couch to 5K on the treadmill) ABSOLUTELY NO WEIGHT LOSS. I have yo-yo'd 4-5 pounds up and down but I cannot explain why it keeps coming back! I am not changing a thing to make it go and come back..I would appreciate any advice you can give. I am despirate to meet my goal of losing 80 pounds this year. Thanks[/quote']

I would say try to go back to post op diet 3-5 days liquids, Protein shakes,etc. then restart with eating Protein first then veggies then carb.Also the general rule is u need 1200 cal to loose weight so with all the exercise u may be in starvation mode and holding on to weight.I'm newly banded 4/6/12 but career dieter and nurse.:-)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
