I'm in the very beginning stages- just submitted paper work, and completed online seminar. Just waiting for the next step of getting the call to schedule all lab work, etc. This may take several weeks. I have to be patient *cough cough*...lol. I have actualy started a blog to help with the journey (lap-band-wagon.blogspot.com)... I would love to have you join me in this new journey!

Age: 30, female

Current Weight: 232 (GASP!)

Goal Weight: 155

Height: 5'3

Current BMI: 40.5 (EEK!)

JOIN ME! We can motivate each other, and any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! :)

Thanks guys! Just wondering where you all go to do the 6 month "diet"? Do you go to your primary doctor? That would probably be the easiest I suppose... Insurance lady told me that Weight Watchers could be considered as well.

Weight watchers, Herbal Life, Jenny Craig, slim fast (dr recorded) anything showing that you tried to loose weight is what I was told. I even got copies of my college transcripts where it should that I had exercise fitness for 4 years. had dr write down my weight for 2 years showing ups and downs. Anything the lapband dr can submit to insurance on your behalf. (Ask dr first though) some might not want it.

I am going through what is called a Center of Excellence. It is basically an all-inclusive practice consisting of Surgeons, Nutritionists, Mental therapists..etc. I go in once a month sometimes more if I happen to be there for an appointment or support meeting and I weigh in. They told me to weigh in and record it and make sure I sign in on my meetings and they will put the package together to present to insurance when the time comes.

You said you already spoke to your insurance rep but one thing I recommend is get the bariatric coverage policies in writing so you have complete understanding of what is needed. Some insurance companies expect certain documentation such as weight, exercise activity, doctor visits and such. It is very important you have this knowledge cause insurance companies can be very picky.

Good Luck!!

Welcome! My insurance required two years. I met with my primary care doctor a couple of times and then completed the remainder of the visits with his physician assistant.

I talked to my insurance rep today (Humana) , and they require 6 cons. months of supervised diet. The 6 months could have been within the last 3 years... Shame on me for not going to all of my Weight Watcher meetings!! UGH!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
