mamasboys 0 Posted February 23, 2012 Does anyone have a yummy low sugar oatmeal recipe? I looked at the boxes of instant oatmeal and just seems like too much sugar!
NWgirl 574 Posted February 23, 2012 I really like the Better Oats Good n' Hearty varieties. Each packet has about 9g of sugar.
DMScheerMOM 10 Posted February 23, 2012 Use the quick cook oatmeal, and then add brown sugar and cinnamon in moderation. Brown sugar has very low calories per teaspoon. That's my fave!
Jachut 487 Posted February 23, 2012 Or better yet, use real oatmeal. Just buy the rolled oats, measure out, pour on milk and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, just microwave for a minute thirty, two minutes depending on your microwave, and then add your flavorings - I like it with just brown sugar and a bit of extra milk or Peanut Butter and maple Syrup.< /p> 2 dragoncreature and Jen75 reacted to this

georgia girl 35 Posted February 24, 2012 If you want to keep an eye on sugar, it's best just to make real oatmeal. I make my own and like to add Peanut Butter and honey. You could add a little smashed banana, or cinnamon and raisins. I have even cooked down diced apples and added that with a little cinnamon in my oatmeal. The possibilies are endless. 1 Jen75 reacted to this
TracieCat 8 Posted March 23, 2012 What I do is to toast some Steel Cut Oats with a bit of olive oil in a pan, just till lightly toasted, then I cook them as directed on package and freeze them into little serving size portions. If you make alot at one time, you will have a quick and easy Breakfast on days where you dont feel like cooking, can just pop one from the freezer to microwave for a few minutes. The Steel Cut variety take longer to cook, about 45 minutes or so but the taste is SO worth it and you can customize it any way you want to once you go to serve it. Add some fruit or Agave nectar or a bit of natural Peanut Butter. I also like them with some sugar free Maple Syrup mixed in. LOVE my Steel Cut Oats! Someone recommended that I try adding my Protein powder into my oatmeal. MISTAKE, I wont ever do that again, ruined a perfectly good bowl of oatmeal. lol.
