They took out a CC and I'm able to get down liquids and mushy stuff. I still feel a little sick but MUCH better than before. However the surgeon was concerned and couldn't figure out what could be causing it so, I'm scheduled for an upper G.I. scan thingy tomorrow morning

Glad you're feeling better. Amazing what a difference just 1 cc can make. Hope the scan tomorrow doesn't show anything major.

That's an important lesson to us all, to speak to the experts when you have any problems, before they become very big problems, you probably lasted a little too long before going though.

Hope you feel better soon.

Dehydration is nothing to fool with. Glad you went in. If you can't drink for 24 hours you REALLY need to be seen. This goes out to all.

Let us know what the Upper GI shows. Glad you are feeling better.

After 7+ full years as a Bandster, with a lot of issues of 'PB' & unexplanable irritable bowel, I was surprised, along with my internist, to learn I had developed some kind of reaction to my Metformin...which replaced the insulin injections I'd been on for 15 years preOp.

So I've been off Metformin now 3 weeks with not a single episode of miseries...e.xcept now my BG level rises and my A1c is climbing.

We all have a delicate balance to maintain. Hope all goes will with ALL of us.

Jack, I would go back on the insulin for a while, maybe just Lantus, the 24-hour insulin. You obviously need something. I couldn't take metformin - got very sick to my stomach - and switched to Lantus and Novolog immediately. Since my surgery in January I've been fine with just the Lantus. Talk to your doctor about it. There are other pills you could take, too, but research them for side effects. I would consult an endocrinologist. Your internist may be great, as mine is, but they aren't able to keep up with the latest research on diabetes medication the way endocrinologists are. For example, 2 years ago my internist suggested Actos, which I'd read had serious side effects, and I refused it. And now that's all coming out about Actos. Anyway, just be careful. The last thing you want now is some serious side effect of the diabetes.

Hey Jack,

You've had IBS developed since banding? Me too. It started about 2 years after I was banded. They think I had a case of c. diff. after a round of antibiotics that triggered it, but cannot be sure as that is the one test the lab failed to run. The don't think it is band related, but interesting you said it as well. It can certainly be debilitating, no?

I was one sick puppy that first go round. Ended up in urgent care on IV fluids. Way fun...NOT

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
