Hi everbody! I am Skin-E-Girl (or I'm about to be!) and I JUST got banded yesterday at noon by Dr. Pham in Tustin, CA!!!

I am in a world of pain right now...my stomach feels swollen and hard and it hurts like hell to move. It feels like I'm getting kicked in the stomach constantly. I had a horrible time last night trying to sleep because I am a side sleeper and every time I tried to roll on my side it hurt too much. In fact, just laying on my back trying to sleep hurts me too. I hear lots of walking, heating pads, and sipping hot liquids help make it bearable and I'm hoping that by tomorrow I will be able to go back to work since I called out of work today. I had initially thought at the hospital that I would be fine to work the day after surgery because I felt no pain and everybody was telling me I did very well in surgery but little did I know that that was the result of the awesome pain meds my nurses had me hopped up on. Right now I would kill somebody to get some more of whatever they gave me!

Despite this drawback, I keep telling myself that this isn't going to be easy, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE WORTH IT.

Please follow my blog at http://skin-e-girl.blogspot.com/

Thanks!

Hi,

I had my band surgery on 2/17/2012 and I was in pain from the word go. It was very hard for me to get up and down by myself and felt like my stomach muscle was being ripped out. I took it very easy the first several days and am off work all week. By day 3, I felt alot better and by day 4, I was like a new woman. Today is day 5 and I can get up and down as many times as I want with little to no pain. Each day will be better than the day before. Good luck!!

Hey Skin-E! I was banded Feb 6th. I was overnight in the hospital and took the week off from work. The first day home was tough. I too am a side sleeper and must have rolled over during sleep and was in real pain the next morning, but a day or two later i was driving the kids to school and washing dishes and stuff, so the pain goes away quickly. Hopefully you have some Roxicet or some other oral pain killer to lean on. I have my 2 week post-op check-up tomorrow. I am down almost 30 pounds between the pre-op diet and the post op liquid diet. I am hoping to be cleared to work-out soon. Hang in there!

Hi....congrats on your banding...I too was banded yesterday, 2/21/12. I'm in the same boat with you....the pain is pretty difficult. I thought I would be really tough and not take the pain medication every 4 hours, but now I've decided that was not a good idea.

And you are right....IT IS SO WORTH IT!!!!

Im a month out. I had 3 kids to deal with ALONE post op and ended up VERY sick from not resting properly. Take it easy but walking everywhere anytime all day is THE BEST thing to help pass that gas. Your tummy is distended and hard from the gas they fill you with. Take it easy and know this is probably te hardest part of the entire experience.

Btw, we are not too far from each other... Im in Whittier and go workout at 24 hour fitness if you find you want a partner! Good luck. And enjoy your transformation!

I am 4wks out today. I thought I might be able to go back to work the next day but decided before surgery that since my procedure was on a Wednesday, I would go ahead and take Thurs & Fri, then have the weekend also to recover, then back to work on Monday. heh, Monday rolled around and I said, oh no...can't do this today. lol. I used my pain meds for two days, every 4-6 hours. After that, I would take it at night to help me sleep. I'm a side sleeper too so to keep me from doing that, I slept on the couch at a slight incline for my upper body. Good luck and many blessings to you!

I stuck a pillow in between my body and the mattress...just wedged it in so I could sleep on my side. It supported my stomach and helped me a lot. I don't know how some people go to work the next day...everyone is different I guess. Maybe you could have the doctor call in pain meds. My doctor gave me a prescription before I left and I filled it and used it every 4 hours for the first two days. There is no reason to put yourself through the pain...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
