I was banded in April of 2011 at 70 years old I am now 71 and have lost 70 pounds to date. I am 6 foot tall and started at 300 pounds. It was the best decesion I have ever made in my life! I was diabetic, had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and couldn't walk more than a block before needing to rest. All the preceding have been eliminated and I truely feel at least 10 years younger. It was an uneventful recovery and I will probably make my goal weight (decided by my Dr. and I) by my one year anniversary. Medicare took care of my surgery and the only drawback was they required me to stay in the hospital for 24 hours following surgery despite my surgeon releasing me the same day as my surgery. A small price to pay for the benefits I received. Good luck and let me know how things go.

Unfortunately loutenia, I have no clue how to send a "noted" back so I'll have to answer this way.

I am 65 and have checked with medicare and my supplemental policy and they will pay for approved surgery for me. At 65 I've tried everything and do not have the $$ to keep spending on things that don't work (or that I don't work) .. so why not try something that does. I want to enjoy my remaining years with my grandchildren and great grandchild in better health and with more vigor.

My first visit with the surgeon is tomorrow and I can't wait to get started.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
