I went in for my 2nd fill today and found that my port flipped. My doctor is finding that quite a few people with the type of port applier used in my sugergy are experiencing flip ports fairly recently after surgery. They stopped using this type about a month ago but I am one of the unfortunately ones that now have a flipped port.

For those of you that had a flipped port, what was your experience like in having this corrected. I understand mine will be outpatient surgery. I'm curious if they have to remove any Fluid from the band or if they could actually put more in while they are putting in the new port. I would love to have a fill when they put the port in - at least I would be that much closer to having restriction!

I was banded on May 12th and my port flipped within the 2nd month. I had my port revision done on Aug. 26 in outpatient surgery. I was in and out. He moved port lower. So far, so good. He was able to remove the Fluid and replaced it during surgery. To keep me on track, he did a refill in three weeks. Alls is good now, I have about 5 cc in my band and actually went back last month to get a small unfill. I'm ready for another tomorrow.....I hope he finds it easy.

Best wishes to you.

I was informed that my port flipped during my third or 4th fill I believe. That was 6 months post-op. I have a Realize band. MY surgeon discussed a revision surgery with me and after he pushed the port in and up, he was able to make the fill. Since I had a decent amount of Fluid in my band at the time, he suggested that we just leave it and revisit as I progress. At my next couple of fills, he just flipped it and filled my band. Sometimes it takes an additional poke but really, I don't want to be taking time off at this point for a revision. I am lucky that he can still access it I guess. I will have the revision if I need to though. It is a day surgery with local anesthetic but I really hate the hospital! GOOD LUCK!

I thought that I had felt a few funny things with my port a few months out. One time, I was carrying a laundry basket and felt a little pop. I still cannot see my port unless I lay down and push the skin around it down. I just thought that the tenderness that I had then was normal,,, until the fill attempt.

I have heard that fixing the port is no big deal and if thats what your surgeon suggests for you to move on, DO IT! All the best!!! I will when my time comes.

I don't know that I really felt anything that would indicate it had flipped. I sleep on my right side and sometimes at night when I rolled over, I "thought" I felt the port but was not really sure. Some people I spoke too said they never feel their port and others do. My doctor is going to do an xray next week to confirm it flipped and then outpatient surgery if it has. I'm not nervous about the surgery - just frustrated that I will have to wait several weeks to have it done and then possibly wait for a fill. I'm ready to start really using my band!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
