Tomorrow Is The Big Day!

Recommended Posts

Boy, time sure did fly! I submitted to insurance on 1/18 and was approved 1/20. Surgery is tomorrow at 9:15am! I have to stay the night because my doctor requires it, so what did you guys pack to make the time go faster? books? Cards? Computer? Any advice on what to expect right before and right after surgery? I'm so excited!

I took my kindle and my cell. But I didn't stay over night. Once I got to pre-op, everything was in fast forward and I didn't get to use either one. Good luck tomorrow!

I don't have to stay overnight, but just for the few hours I am going to be there I plan to take my Ipod and cell phone. I'm sure we will be doing more sleeping that anything!! Best of luck to you!

I stayed overnight and really just slept a lot! Didnt so much as turn on the tv or mess around on my phone more than just to tell everyone I was alright. Between naps I was being poked and prodded...took a couple strolls in the hall, and that was all the time I had really. I guess everyone is different but time flew and I would've had zero interest surfing on my laptop.

Good luck! I was outpatient and went home a few hours after surgery. Do what your doctor says and do take it easy the first few days. Take your pain pills! Follow your eating rules. Expect the gas....many people get it in their chest/shoulder. Gas X strips are great and you can easily take them after surgery. Stock up on your Clear Liquids for your first few days. Let your family wait on you! biggrin.png

I did not take anything... LOL... left pillow in car for ride home so seat belt did not push on stomach.

I walked as much as I could and asked questions. What I did not do and should have was ask for pain meds before it got to bad. So stay ahead of your pain. and make sure you sip your Water and walk as much as you can. (it helps with the gas).

Best of luck

Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
